Re: On This Day in DECEMBER Bonahistory

I have a double entry for the same day!!

Well, well, 13 years ago today was the first time I saw a Joe Bonamassa performance.  Armory High in Syracuse, New York.  And it was with the original "A New Day Yesterday" studio album musicians, legendary "Creamo" Liss on bass, and Tony Cintron pounding the beats!  My goodness did the musical "hits" shift the fan (me)!!! A story in itself... wink  Yes it was "A New Day Yesterday, Live" before redone with the second band lineup.  Man, I would LOVE to find out there exists a taping of that show!

2 years ago was the incredible first Oakland, California Paramount show.  It was to be the last time and place my son and I were together, and, that being said, thankfully and gratefully, we had a fantastically fun and very close time one more time, again.

11!! Years apart and thousands of miles also, but both as close a return to memories and smiles... big_smile cool

Re: On This Day in DECEMBER Bonahistory

Hi dear Rocket, your post warms my heart.  So happy about your happy memories.  Often that's all some of us have.

But then Joe comes along and makes it all better somehow.

Re: On This Day in DECEMBER Bonahistory

Yeah, that was an awesome show!  Got my copy of ANDY signed by the band, which was cool too.  I also would love to find a tape of that show.

Logged in for a quick check of the Forum...knowing I was two days behind on BH.  When I saw BH was listed up in the "Actives", I wondered what the post (and show date) may be....

Great, great post Rocket. Sorry I didn't have the date up beforehand...and it was one of those great early dates John has on his attended list.  I dropped the ball (work is my excuse, but no excuse.)

Great post again. Thanks for sharing it on BH. (I imagine those on here who know you well know the deeper meaning of some of your text.)

I'll make a summary note of your first show and band when I get the date up. (Won't do justice to your post.)

PS: Like avatar too....but hoping to see Uncle Sam riding the Rocket again. Reminds me of summer. (??) I had enough winter already!!

Well, the Syracuse December 2000 show was a contrast to how hot Joe and Tony and Creamo were inside compared to how cold it was outside...sorry I don't recall "how"...but if I say it's cold, it's cold! lol The Syracuse show in Feb. 2009 was as to be expected, colder, perhaps much colder by perception, -10F and wind chill approaching -20??? Cold.  It was ironic to not have yet met John actually.  It took quite a few mutual shows over a few years! smile  And not quite as spur of the moment as Bill S's, I read in the (Syracuse) paper while visiting the folks' empty house 90 miles "up" in the North Country about this fellow and his "A New Day Yesterday" album released, and mention of guests Leslie West, Gregg Allman, and Rick Derringer, did NOT sell me on making the trip, it was the fact Tom Dowd produced it!  But the notion that this was the kid I saw on a large (for the times) tv in a military barracks lounge (the Jane Pauley bit, and a passive in passing viewer at that) and knew immediately somehow our paths were certain to come to the same crossroads...that was NOWHERE in my mind, even though I'd promised myself I would seek "that kid" out actively, one day, when he was "grown up!"  And after the numbness and dumfounded expressiveness wore off a little, I was left with an unrelenting niggling, nagging me thought, with a repeated question to myself that is STILL being repeated by many today who may have only a slightly more in depth pre-exposure, "Why have I not heard of this guy?!" Well, no need to ponder, now I had!!! And something had to be done...

The Oakland show 2011 was stellar start to finish.  We had a debate/discussion about the city itself, on forum, not aided by either it's reputation nor other sporadical local events occupying minds.  But I think everyone agreed it was a night to remember, a very good night, yes, in Oakland.  My son was totally impressed by the performance and crowd reaction, of course, and even moreso by the fans we gathered together before hand.  He'd appreciated his first time in Las Vegas on all those counts, too.  But in Oakland, he was even more deeply moved, actually.  I think the photography/video police were heavy-handed, but I know RickB got at least some filming, and a torrent exists.  Great, great show.  Wish I'd been to the one on Friday. sad  No worries.  It "appears" that Friday nights in Oakland with Joe Bonamassa will safely go on into the future. wink  Here's something Rick got (date is wrong); "Mountain Time": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_czTup-FeQ

Re: On This Day in DECEMBER Bonahistory

I should've helped you out today (west coast time still Dec. 17 wink), Sam.  I was going to suggest "Bird On A Wire," and offer up this was the arrangement that started in Bakersfield, California, just 5 year ending shows earlier!  You need to add this to the Dec.8, 2011 entry, the first time it was played and Mindy Lou was there for the great show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuZmiOdNXkw  Anyway, compare the difference in just driving up to Oakland, Yakima, Portland, Seattle, to across the border as offered up as you linked in your Dec. 17, 2011 Vancouver, B.C., Canada entry.  Anyone catch some Joe delightful differences? Small, but , ahh.  It was a week before Christmas Eve, , a little "Silent Night" in there?! wink

However, I think you missed the Vancouver Orpheum's phantasmic "Midnight Blues" mystery man... check it out.  Watch the "person" Walking (and playing) In Joe's Shadow!  You tell me...is that Gary Moore himself joining in???!!!  Oh, yeah, it accidentally was the result of audience heads blocking the view, never noticed the eerie aspect until viewing much later.  You watch and listen...amazing version. cool

Oh my god, that "Bird On A Wire" is just absolutely beautiful! Thanks Rocket for making us aware of it and thanks to Linda for capturing it so well!

Re: On This Day in DECEMBER Bonahistory

Once again Rocket...you added a little of your fuel to BH.

I loved the 12/17 Bird on a Wire when I found your capture.  Thanks for Linda's 12/8/11 link too!!...I fell down on searching links in the beginning of Dec BH (it's on my "to do" to go back and add some...I think I'll have some time because Dec dates will be winding down. smile )

A big thanks for pointing out BoaW's journey along with Joe's as he winds down '11. (I would have never put that together on my own!!  Grateful for the history lesson!)

I'm thinking....I could move to Hawaii and be two hours behind you...or probably better yet for me...I should look on ebay for a low mileage DeLorean...then I could really do BH right.

Thanks always!

Oh PS:  Midnight Blues.  I did see it on your list ... but must admit ... I clicked on BoaW first and said "that's the link for the day."  Big mistake.  I'm going with...it's Gary.  Thanks for another heads up. (eary and cool indeed.)

Mountain time

Had to cry today

My first show and I had never heard a lick of Joe's music. Hell, I had never even heard his name until 2 hours before show time, when a friend gave me a ticket.
Here's the setlist (99% sure):
You upset me
Reconsider baby
The river
Takin the hit
Mountain time
Wild about you Baby
Burning hell
Faux martini
Blues deluxe
Woke up dreaming
Pain and sorrow
If Heartaches were nickels
Had to cry today
And the rest, as they say, is history!

... and Bill S. celebrates his 10 year Bonabaptism anniversary (12/03/14) with a look back slide show "10 years in 10 minutes": http://youtu.be/onVzb2R4Yvw

That is like the perfect setlist! Congrats on 10 years Bill!

Buzzy!  Is it that cold on your side of the border already?!!  Your thought processes seem to be suffering from the beginning stages of hypothermia!!  Get inside!!

During my daily 2am insomniatic Forum check I saw your post.  Had a nice smile after that as I tossed and turned for a while. Thank you!

Re: On This Day in DECEMBER Bonahistory

It actually is a December date - in England they reverse the month/day (so December 4 would be 4/12, not April 12).  The video is great 64:1 odds - and he won (remind you of anyone?).

Re: On This Day in DECEMBER Bonahistory

It does!! Joe beat the long odds!! Each day, more and more are realizing ... BONAMASSA ROCKS!!

The video is a bit blurry ... that's not Mr. M they are chasing around that track, (during one of his many trips across the Pond) is it?? smile

(Lastly ... the poster's title has 12/4/2103 (a year in to the future!! smile) ... he uploaded on April 14, 2013 ... so given the reverse date and upload ... I was guessing April.) (Video link: http://youtu.be/taqEPO7EKis)

I added all this ... hoping Rocket would post up an Off Topic slap on the wrist. smile

Safe travels, Sandy.  (Keep Mr. M away from the track!)

I bet little did Joe realize back in 2005 he would actually end up living in Malibu!

After his most recent move, anyone know if he's still in the "Bu"?
