Re: Joe's Tweeds

Yep, that's the deal. Old Jensen speakers may sound great but can't handle the dB onslaught that they experience daily with JB (. Funny that nobody chimes in when he puts EV's in his 4x12 instead of greenbacks (though he did go greenback for a short run some time ago). The man needs power handling! Depending on what was on the combo, the speakers are only 30-50W at the most.

Just my two cents, no matter what Fender amp I have played they ALWAYS sound best with a british voiced speaker. That goes for my Deluxe Reverb Reissue, Custom Vibrolux CVR, 67 Vibrolux, 64 Fender Champ, 63 Brownface Deluxe, a 63 Fender Pro, 64 Bandmaster, and my Divided by 13 CJ11 which combines both tweed and blackface elements. The go to choice for me is the WGS ET65 or a G12M Creamback. On the 15 inch category, Eminence Big Ben!

Amp: Firebird Musical Amplifiers
Guitars:62 LP SG , 02 FB VII, JB FB I, 76 Electra Omega, 64 Firebird V, 73 LPC, 61 Custom Tele, 59 and 60 Melody Maker

Re: Joe's Tweeds

I've heard a lot of people saying he uses Celestion Classic Lead 80, and it sounds right to me. It rings a bell a bit, cuz I could swear I've saw/heard him stating this somewhere.

"Re: Fender Tweed Twin question

A low power twin is about 75 percent as loud.  Great amp when tuned right. I use the 80 watt versions because I like the extra headroom.  There's not a huge difference between them.  The 56/57 is more compressed and the high power is more of a jet engine. Shake the ground those amps do...

The low power Tweed Twin and High Power Tweed Twin are two totally different amps. The input stages are different. The voltage amp stages are different. The tone stacks are different. The phase inverters are different. The power stages are different. The power supplies are different. Therefore the tone of the two amps is different.
