Yep, that's the deal. Old Jensen speakers may sound great but can't handle the dB onslaught that they experience daily with JB (. Funny that nobody chimes in when he puts EV's in his 4x12 instead of greenbacks (though he did go greenback for a short run some time ago). The man needs power handling! Depending on what was on the combo, the speakers are only 30-50W at the most.
Just my two cents, no matter what Fender amp I have played they ALWAYS sound best with a british voiced speaker. That goes for my Deluxe Reverb Reissue, Custom Vibrolux CVR, 67 Vibrolux, 64 Fender Champ, 63 Brownface Deluxe, a 63 Fender Pro, 64 Bandmaster, and my Divided by 13 CJ11 which combines both tweed and blackface elements. The go to choice for me is the WGS ET65 or a G12M Creamback. On the 15 inch category, Eminence Big Ben!
