Guitar of choice? (Page 4 of 6)

That's like asking which of my kids I like better! As a charter memeber of the more money than brains club, all I can say is I have way to many guitars.  I'll give you my favorites by maker from my collection: Gibson 77 Les Paul Standard gold top.  PRS Santana limited with solid brazilian neck, Fender 2000 Jeff Beck strat, Gigliotti JB model (may be my fav), Tom Anderson Atom custom made with bigsby and RW neck, Ibanez John Scofield 335, Hamer custom made flying V (vector), Gretsch 1960 Country Club, Rickenbacker 360/12 Maple glow.  Do your want the Acoustics? Those are a blast, I played one a couple of months ago, it was a special chambered edition, it was super light but kicked like a mule!

That's the best LP Gibson do in my opinion, but I'm a little biased.

I think what Joe must have done is chosen a spec that was light on the wallet (relatively speaking) so that it was accessable for his fans. His guitar is essentially a 59 historic like he plays but without the flame top and with aging. I think that was a good move on his part. The idea of aging a guitar that is clearly aimed at gigging makes sense because it doesn't matter if it gets a bit beaten up.

The only thing about mine is that the neck is so fat that it's quite hard work to play some bar chords. It needs a different technique to what I have done up to now and it's buggered up my acoustic playing as I've lost some strength in my left hand. Oh well, practice practice pracice!

I read it some where that the "inspiration" for Joe's LP came from a 1957 LP that came into his Dad's shop. Joe fell in love with that guitar and was able to take it home to play from time to time. But one day a buyer came in and bought it. That was his fathers biz, to sell guitars after all. That particular guitar left Joe's hands but never left his heart. When the offer came from Gibson, Joe knew exactly what guitar he wanted to see built.

So thats the guitar that some are lucky enough to own.

I have a few guitars  (check out my website)

My most used is one of mine a strat shape, roller trem, dimarzio p/ups #19 is her name ( well i couldnt call it a him as i fondle it every night at gigs lol)

my next  would be my cherry les paul ( Rosey lol) i recentley put in bare knuckle pickups and what a difference that made i can control feedback much better as an effect .

then it would be my '62 reissue strat ( i wont mention the make, as ive read some more of the posts today lol) but it has such an unique sound compared to others ive had.

I have nearly finished a tele i am making no doubt it will be yet another gig bag to carry it about on the list from Santa.

Unfortunately some players dont understand that probably the guitar their "idol" is playing isnt standard but hand finished, hand wound pickups ect. Or they have tried hundreds before picking that one. I remember yrs ago i got a martin up for a customer that was made for EC but he didnt want it. The customer said if its not good enough for Clapton then its not good enough for me hahahaha. Martin was back on the phone 3 days later as Eric had changed his mind.
