Re: Guitar of choice?

My favorite guitar that I have is my Stevie Ray Vaughan signature strat.

The guitar that I want right now is Joe's new LP

Re: Guitar of choice?

I have 2 weapons of choice.

My first would be my Sunburst Modified Brian May Signature with Adeson Trisonic Pickups.  This guitar is so versitile i can get any guitar sound i want from LP, tele or even Ricky sounds.  I have a slight mod done to this guitar so i can get Strat sounds as well.  Ok im a Brian May Fan but i play mostly Blues on that guitar.

And i also love my Epiphone Les Paul with original Gibson 1959 PAF in the neck.  There's a bit of a story behind it.  My brother won 50 grand on a lotto ticket a few years back and took me shopping for a new guitar.  I tried various Gibson Les Pauls and just couldnt get one that i liked.  So i spotted the Epiphone Pre Owned in great condtion for 200 GBP and just fell in love with the sound.  A couple of years ago bought new GFS pickups to be installed and left into a local tech to be fitted and a few days later got a phone call to tell me i had an original 1959 PAF fitted in the neck.  He has a 59 LP and recongised it instantly so i kept it in the neck.

Re: Guitar of choice?

I have an Antique white Epi SG that I really like....best sounding cheap guitar I ever.  Ken played it.  Not bad huh?

Ry (#1 son) has a PRS with 2 P90s that is so sweet...if I knew what I was doing I could sound like Mike Bloomfield or Luther Allison in the old days.  That tone, MAN!

But my favorite is my brothers Custom LP in his hands.  Thing plays like butter and he can do a Ronnie Earl to Carlos to Larry Carlton to Jimmy Page to BB to Billy Gibbons sound on that thing even through a Blues Jr.  Played through his Fuchs...hmmm

Sweet

EDITZ:  if you include basses my favorite of all time for YEARS is my 74 Jazz, which Roy named the BASSINATOR.

Re: Guitar of choice?

The best guitar I've heard in our town is '74 Ibanez Musician with the warmest vintage sound. The ideal stuff for good old hard rock. The riffs from "Burn" played at this guitar sounded even better then on tape:)
As for basses, I'd present "The Mighty Trio" of Fender Jazz Bass, Musicman StingRay and Ibanez USATK. In Semtember one of the Warwick monsters is going to appear in our town, so I'm looking forward to trying it.
Another nice company is Cort (there's plenty of them in my town) - they are making cool guitars and basses that sound much brighter then today's Ibanezes (of course, I'm talking about Cort's top-of-the-line instruments).
And I can't forget about OLP stuff that sounds incredibly good for such a low price.

I did have an  OLP MM1 for a short time great guitar for the price but i had a faulty one and took it back.  I got it replaced 5 times with exactly the same fault so i lost faith in them.  As for corts i love them too and prefer them to Ibanez.  Some Ibanez guitars are made in the Cort Factory.

Re: Guitar of choice?

Currently, I have three guitars that I use. Also have a bunch that I don't, but hush about those.

'06 Schecter PT Custom. Tuned in Drop-D, mostly used for heavy blues or rockabilly stuff.
'07 Fender 72 Thinline. Tuned in open E for slide.
'96 Fender Anniversary Stratocaster. Normal tuning. Mostly used for... Everything.

In about a week or so, I'll collect my Gibson LP-295.

Its all Joe's fault! I never liked Gibsons, until I saw him earlier this year. That sweet distorted tone on Bridge to Better Days made me fall in love <3

What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wild beasts sweeping majestically over the fields?

Re: Guitar of choice?

What would be best, brand new or used?
There are advantages for both, but what is the best decision?

If possible, I buy used gear. Simply because its cheaper.

Re: Guitar of choice?

Univibe2008,
May I ask you a question? What kind of a problem did you have with your OLP? I'm having one for about a year now and I've had only one fault (one with electronics - for some time I had only one coil working). The neck of my bass is also not a perfect thing but that's OK for its price.
By the way, I totally agree with you about Corts. I find their sound much brighter then one of modern Ibanezes. However, goog old Musicians (both guitars and basses) are really nice instruments.
Shredderman14,
I agree with Guitargeek here. Moreover, used gear has its own specific character that is impossible to find in new one. Finally, a good reason for bying used stuff is that you can find a really unique and nice thing that's no longer produced. Still, it's just my opinion and everyone chooses what he likes.
