Re: Guitar of choice?

Ive played the Gallagher sig, Its nice but aint that great I certainly wouldnt pay £2k for it maybe at a push £1k it just didnt feel worth it in playability and sound. Though it was a good replica..
Id much sooner work a Standard strat into that shape cause it felt no better than a US standard and certainly wasnt better then how the highway (which I then bought) next to it played / sounded :x I was gonna buy somet around that price too saved me alot of £££ wink

Thanks for the pictures John! smile

You know, since visiting Dave's Guitar shop, I've wondered if Joe has ever been there in his Wisconsin travels? I'll bet he would really like to see what Dave has on display in both new and vintage guitars.

Re: Guitar of choice?

That's like asking which of my kids I like better! As a charter memeber of the more money than brains club, all I can say is I have way to many guitars.  I'll give you my favorites by maker from my collection: Gibson 77 Les Paul Standard gold top.  PRS Santana limited with solid brazilian neck, Fender 2000 Jeff Beck strat, Gigliotti JB model (may be my fav), Tom Anderson Atom custom made with bigsby and RW neck, Ibanez John Scofield 335, Hamer custom made flying V (vector), Gretsch 1960 Country Club, Rickenbacker 360/12 Maple glow.  Do your want the Acoustics? Oh well, the guitars are probably doing better than the stock market! check my myspace link for photo's

If heartaches were nickels, I'd have 35 cents!

Re: Guitar of choice?

I really like my 1958 Custom Shop Les Paul.  Its a Ice Tea Gloss finish.  Sounds amazing.

Re: Guitar of choice?

Those are a blast, I played one a couple of months ago, it was a special chambered edition, it was super light but kicked like a mule!

Re: Guitar of choice?

On the subject of Gibson, has anyone noticed how on their les paul section of the webstie, loads of guitars are discontinued? Why? They not wanting to make some of em? They not selling as much? I know PRS dont sell as much coz they're real expensive, and fender sell real good, but why have Gibson done this? Theyve just replaced the standard with a newer model, but what was wrong with the original!? I mean dont start thinkin i dont like Gibson, theyre the best at what they do and i love theyre models, but whats goin on?

That's the best LP Gibson do in my opinion, but I'm a little biased.  wink

I think what Joe must have done is chosen a spec that was light on the wallet (relatively speaking) so that it was accessable for his fans. His guitar is essentially a 59 historic like he plays but without the flame top and with aging. I think that was a good move on his part. The idea of aging a guitar that is clearly aimed at gigging makes sense because it doesn't matter if it gets a bit beaten up.

The only thing about mine is that the neck is so fat that it's quite hard work to play some bar chords. It needs a different technique to what I have done up to now and it's buggered up my acoustic playing as I've lost some strength in my left hand. Oh well, practice practice pracice!

Edited to fix typos. Mental note, don't post on Joe's site straight after returning from the pub.  smile

Re: Guitar of choice?

Been saving for a long time for a new guitar, but still no way near the price of guitar that i want to be able to afford. Been dying to get my hands on a  PRS Sc250, for months! Been really annoyin my local dealer to try and get them in stock!

I read it some where that the "inspiration" for Joe's LP came from a 1957 LP that came into his Dad's shop. Joe fell in love with that guitar and was able to take it home to play from time to time. But one day a buyer came in and bought it. That was his fathers biz, to sell guitars after all. That particular guitar left Joe's hands but never left his heart. When the offer came from Gibson, Joe knew exactly what guitar he wanted to see built.

So thats the guitar that some are lucky enough to own.

Rock on. Peace all.

My favorite "go to guitar" is an Ernie Ball Axis Guitar, one of three that I have of this model -- but something special about this particuliar purple flame top -- that I love to play!!!!

I have a few guitars, a Les Paul, a 1990 Ibanez 540S, an ernie ball musicman axis super sport and by far the best is my Feline Lion
It's the quilted one half way down the link below.

I'm a massive Gibson fan but these are better than the ones I have played, and I've played a lot of them.

Re: Guitar of choice?

Hi there

I have a few guitars  (check out my website)

My most used is one of mine a strat shape, roller trem, dimarzio p/ups #19 is her name ( well i couldnt call it a him as i fondle it every night at gigs lol)

my next  would be my cherry les paul ( Rosey lol) i recentley put in bare knuckle pickups and what a difference that made i can control feedback much better as an effect .

then it would be my '62 reissue strat ( i wont mention the make, as ive read some more of the posts today lol) but it has such an unique sound compared to others ive had.

I have nearly finished a tele i am making no doubt it will be yet another gig bag to carry it about on the list from Santa.

Unfortunately some players dont understand that probably the guitar their "idol" is playing isnt standard but hand finished, hand wound pickups ect. Or they have tried hundreds before picking that one. I remember yrs ago i got a martin up for a customer that was made for EC but he didnt want it. The customer said if its not good enough for Clapton then its not good enough for me hahahaha. Martin was back on the phone 3 days later as Eric had changed his mind.

I never would have doubted that Patty. If had had one of those it would definately be the guitar dreams. Congratulations on winning that by the way! Must have felt incredible standing on stage with Joe!

Yes my guitar gets played.  smile  My son has his hands on it evey chance he gets.  I have not been able to coordinate lessons yet as I have one full time and three part time jobs got to pay bills and get to RAH).....but I am able to play melody lines, like The River from my Joe Bonamassa songbook smile and I put an effects pedal on and just come up with some incredible sounds...lol...my future guitar teacher has really gotten on it and I am going to film him playing it so you all can hear what it really sounds like....awesome doesn't even begin to compliment how it sounds....yes, I am very very proud of my "Joe."  pattyluvsjoe
