Re: The Eagles

You got an 'off' switch on your radio? Maybe you should try using it wink And....how do Creed and Nickleback fit alongside the Eagles? Ya lost me on that one.

Again, I blame the radio stations. I do admit they're legendary and have well written songs - it was just overplayed on my local radio stations. Since then, the Eagles have been replaced with Creed, Nickelback, Buckcherry, etc.

I digress.

Re: The Eagles

The Eagles...the one band over all others that my wife and I love to listen to together. So many memories, there songs always seemed to be on the radio or playing in the car back in the 70's. It's funny every song I hear from them makes me think of women, good and bad! When I met my girlfriend back in 75, we would play "The Best of My Love"...ahh kids , what did they know about love. Looking back now, that ballad meant more than we thought, 33 years later, it still works for us smile

Re: The Eagles

It is no wonder they were overplayed in some peoples (not mine) minds. With this many hits, how could they not be on the radio so often ?  Here is the setlist from the show I saw on Saturday Oct. 11, 2003 in Pittsburgh PA: THE LONG RUN, NEW KID IN TOWN, WASTED TIME, PEACEFUL EASY FEELING, HOLE IN THE WORLD, LOVE WILL KEEP US ALIVE, THE BOYS OF SUMMER, TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT, ALREADY GONE, ONE OF THESE NIGHTS, JAMES DEAN, LYIN' EYES, I CANT TELL YOU WHY, WALK AWAY, TEQUILA SUNRISE, SUNSET GRILL, TURN TO STONE, YOU BELONG TO THE CITY, LIFES BEEN GOOD, DIRTY LAUNDRY, FUNK 49, HEARTACHE TONIGHT, LIFE IN THE FAST LANE, HOTEL CALIFORNIA, ROCKY MOUNTAIN WAY, ALL SHE WANTS TO DO IS DANCE, TAKE IT EASY, DESPERADO.    Thats 29 songs.  Granted there are some solo tunes from each member in there, but I can think of at least twice as many radio airplayed EAGLES songs that arent in there.

Tell me about the car i saw parked outside your door ? Tell me what you left me waiting two or three hours for ? Tell me why when the phone rings, baby, your up and across the floor ? Please dont keep me wondering no more.....

Thanks guys. Got back from the gig about 2 hours ago, just having a couple of Peroni's and savouring this evenings event.

Black suits, white shirts, black ties...I really was hoping for the check shirts, T-shirts, jeans and boots. It looked kind of 'corporate'. But...Oh My!!!!....how can those guys harmonize like that!!! They played plenty of the old stuff...Hotel California....Heartache Tonight...Lying Eyes...Desperado (brought a tear to my eye)...etc etc and some new 'Eden' stuff which I'm not too crazy about personally.

The volume was fairly quiet at the start (one guy shouted "turn it up") but it cranked up a few notches in the second set (yep, theres a short break).

The saving grace for me was Joe Walsh. Every time he stepped up to solo or sing  he gave it a kick up the a***. 'Life's Been Good' with the hat-cam was great and he got the biggest cheer of the night when the band introductions took place. It would've been great without him but it was fantastic with him.

The guitars were changed at pretty much every song but the overall tone sounded kinda processed and a bit harsh....and I was sitting just by the desk where you'd expect to get the best sound.

It was wonderful to hear 20,000 people singing along to songs that have shaped and become part of our lives.....bunch of old hippys that we are wink

Overall????.......DAMN!!!!...I've just been in the same room as The Eagles.....and it was an amazing night. Bloody expensive....but money well spent big_smile

When I saw them I got the biggest kick out of hearing Joe Walsh do "Funk 49"  Did you by chance get to hear it Geoff?  It was a great concert for me.  thanks for sharing..plj

Re: The Eagles

Yes Patty...Funk 49 was in there too with a very 70's hippy trippy back drop.....swirly patterns and funky colours. Darrflo, I agree....I was wishing and hoping for Rocky Mountain Way but it wasn't on the list....it was still a great gig. I know the Eagles aren't everyones choice but they were a part of mine and my wife's life when we were wearing flared jeans, tie-dye T-shirts and Indian cheese-cloth shirts....the first time around!. Seems an age ago.....I guess it was, we must be getting old smile .....but we still wear the same kind of clothes....is that good or bad?? big_smile I don't care.....we had a wonderful time reliving our youth....ha!, we do that every day, it keeps us young at heart. wink

Geoff,
It is Good.  Love the 70's.......we had some really great times in the 70's....hippie clothes so sweet and so cool, I am still looking for my favorite jeans with all the patches, they were so classic..........there will never be another time like those days.....and I still say if Joe had been what he is now then, we would have already made him a superstar, but part of his mission is to keep us......  Forever Young.........

Re: The Eagles

Patty, I was talking to one of the guys who plays in the same band as me and we found out we were both at the same all-day-gig in London in the mid 70's ( we've known each other since the mid '90's).....Bad Company, Nazareth, Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance, Be Bop Deluxe and a few others were on the bill. He remembers seeing me in my patchwork denim flares with sewn-on peace signs...I wish I still had 'em....probably wouldn't fit although I'm still as skinny as ever smile P***es off my wife that she has to diet and I wish I did smile

Re: The Eagles

We went to see the Eagles last night, an absolutely spectacular show!!  They did it all and everyone took a turn in the spotlight; it was a thrill to see Joe Walsh perform, what an entertaining guy and fun to watch play guitar...how about those guitar faces. big_smile  I was going to pass on this show with the prices and other artists on my concert list, I'm glad my husband wanted to go more than me.  I was really taken by surprise of how FANTASTIC they were!! It was like a small orchestra up there with the addition of 4 in the brass section and the additional keyboardist...just all sounded great! They played almost 3 1/2 hours with 2 encores, I'm not sure if this is standard or it was a little extra for Timothy and Glenn's family members in the audience.  The review didn't hit the paper yet, the show started a little after 8 with a short intermission and was over about midnight, will post it later.

I had the good fortune to meet a very nice employee of the Eagles who was working on her laptop in this private room off the club box seating and she was willing to deliver a note to Joe Walsh on the back of a Joe Bonamassa card. wink

Re: The Eagles

Hey gsj and anyone that works in a music store may appreciate this story.

Yesterday, my hubby Anthony was at Sam Ash Music Store in Cherry Hill, NJ talking to his regular salesperson and conversation led to the Eagles concert and Joe Walsh stopping in the store and spending about $5000 during the bands stop in the Philly/Atlantic City nights. (they are about 1 hour from each other and the Eagles had a few days off between shows with family members in the area etc.)  He bought a paisley Fender strat, apparently like the one that was in the window (will get more details on the gear) and Joe called the salesman the next day for info on some spring adjustments, so the salesman thought this is great, Joe calling me, maybe he'll buy more stuff from me...he had told Joe this and of course given him his card.  (Joe sent a guy back with the guitar for the spring thingy adjustment...) Come to find out, that same next day, Joe went to the Guitar Center 3 doors down and spent another $5000 there.  Yeah, the salesman was a little crushed, but Joe Walsh was just spreading the wealth around and maybe looking for some fan appreciation...;)

Some of the questions Anthony asked,  did lots of customers in the store approach Joe Walsh, geez, I feel old and depressed, notta, no one...that time of day and maybe with a recession going on, not too many customers and probably the baby boomers like me were at work and the youngins' in the store I think were clueless who Joe was!!!  The salesman didn't even think to get a picture and in hindsight said, they get bothered all the time, I wouldn't have asked and there was no manager on duty at the time.

You never know...

Re: The Eagles

Oh Angela, how cool to have Joe Walsh in your store buying a guitar. I'd have asked for a photo.....no doubt about it. Normally we only get to deal with the main guy's tech's and not the BIG name. I've heard that Ringo Starr goes in to his local UK store, when he's over here, as soon as they open so he can be sure that there'll be no other customers around to bother him. Fair enough I suppose but I think that if you ask politely then there's no harm done. Just show due respect and consideration.....and don't get p****d if they say no wink
