Hi Vikki,
As far as allergies, many guitar strings have nickel in them. My son that has a peanut allergy, also is allergic to nickel, which was discovered when he had a chronic rash from his belt buckle. So, I sympathize with you. Possibly, you could get earrings made with high quality posts and secure non-nickel strings from one of your guitarist connections to have something made, BUT if you are super sensitive, its a risky purchase for yourself.
Lesser known artists are welcome, especially if they are going to spread the word to their followers, who in turn will purchase jewelry. Elisa is accumulating lots of guitar string inventory from a wide range of guitarists.
Send me an e-mail with your mailing address and I will send you some cards and pre-paid mailers. Thanks for your interest.
Are you going to the Joe show in Philly in November? I have 2 tickets maybe, that someone has not paid for yet, row A center. They still have first rights if they want them, so they aren't definitely up for grabs yet.
TieDyeVikki wrote:I assume since I'm allergic to cheap metals, I wouldn't be able to wear this jewelry, huh? I think nickel is the biggest culprit, but it could be other metals as well. I know I normally have to buy 14K gold (or better) or sterling silver, otherwise I get a rash. Actually, partly because of this issue, most of the necklaces I wear regularly have fimo clay pendants on leather or cloth cords.
Also, do the string donations necessarily have to be from a well-known artist? Because I know of some local guitarists who have nice local followings, and some of their fans might be into buying jewelry made with their strings, if it were available. I've been meaning to mention this charity to several artists I know, but I wanted to ask this question here first.
