Topic: Back Door Slam Review.....

In case anyone here likes Back Door Slam, I did write a review of their show when they opened for Govt' Mule at The Rave in Milwaukee on November 13th, 2008. You can read it here:

Re: Back Door Slam Review.....

i quit reading it after the first part.  i dont want to sound like an ahole hear but probably will anyway.  one, i don't need a review over a page for a set that didn't last an hour.  two, i may be alone in this but in reading a concert review i don't really care about tallan latz's opinion of the band, three, to say a band with one album out is too good to be opening for anyone is just plain stupid.  sorry, love the band, think you went a bit overboard.

I appreciate your opinion Kevin; everyone has the right to have one.

Not sure if you know anything about Tallan, but he has played with some pretty heavy hitters this past year such as Albert Cummings, Lance Lopez, Wes Jeans, Greg Koch, Wayne Baker Books, and Walter Trout just to name a few. Also, Joe made a point on a thread of his own indicating how talented he is. So when Tallan says he really likes someone, I at least listen.

As far as the length of the review, I'm not a professional at that and tend to give a bit more info than needed. However, I guess you really needed to be there to understand how this mostly Gov't Mule audience, appreciated Back Door Slam. Apparently the word had gotten out to make sure to show up early to catch their performance and many in the crowd were blown away by them. My apologies though for the length of the review.

I have seen Back Door Slam live four times and this was the only time they opened for someone. Since they sold out Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago and had an excellent showing at Naperville Summer Nights, I guess that's what I meant regarding them opening for anyone. Although I understand why they did it which was for the same reasons they opened for Kid Rock, more exposure to different people.

Lastly, I for one don't think you're an "ahole" just because you don't agree with me.

Re: Back Door Slam Review.....

I am one of those that likes a long review. I think posting the link is the chosen. approved way according to the guidelines. I'm VERY excited that I'm going to see Tallan at the IBC's..He is competing against my friend Matt Wigler, the young piano player that opened for Joe at the Birchmere. Nice review Roy.    Cathy

Re: Back Door Slam Review.....

Thanks Cathy! When you see him ask him how he's doing on his Nintendo DS. He should smile and give you an earful. wink I'm sure you'll understand how special he is once you meet him. I'm going to see him and his parents at a benefit on January 24th. The Grafton Blues Association which I belong to, is holding a fundraiser to help pay the cost for Tallan to attend the IBC. Apparently, the IBC opened a special category for new young artists this year and of course, Tallan got picked to go. He's got a new band according to his Dad and I should get the full scoop on that Saturday. He also had a little bit part in a movie that was shot in Minnesota along with a video shoot. Must have been thrilling. smile
