Re: Les Paul(s)
1991 Les Paul Studio I have had my ups and downs with this guy. It started life as a black studio with gold trim, but the person before me stripped the finish and put a light stain on it. It looks real nice. I traded an american strait for it and a little cash, in the end a bit of a bad deal. I found out years later the neck was cracked and one night after a gig it was cracked for a second time. But surprisingly after I had the second break fixed it played better. I also had a refret and have changed the picks ups to an Alnico II in the neck and a Pearly Gates in the Bridge. I have been thinking of changing out the PG to either another Alnico or a 59. I have rewired the guitar twice. Its a heavy LP and I love the ebony fret board but I wish it had a slimmer neck on it. Its also a very dark sounding LP.
On a side note I have a 76 Ibanez lawsuit LP Custom the best playing guitar I own. I say playing because the neck is perfect for me. If I could get a guitar custom built LP I would hamd them that guitar. The bad the pups needed Potting and the bridge pup died so I only have one super 70's pup on it which I like. Much different sounding guitar much brighter and lighter guitar doesn't have the sustain like the Studio and it tends to feed back when using higher gain. Its been my number two for years since I got the studio.
The Les Paul I really want is a white or black late 70's or early 80's Custom, I know these where not known to be great LP but I played a couple and love them.
