Well, I guess if I had to choose between dying (Gallagher), going Bat-crap insane (Green), and being elderly with a bad fashion, I'd choose the latter.

It's not that Clapton is bad Deezer, he's just really mediocre these days. He's like the Nickelback of blues. Not bad, not great, just there. And I much prefer listening to the insane and inspired, apparently. Which at times go hand in hand, but bad fashion calls the whole thing off. tongue

Re: Clapton discussion

Mediocre? I just don't agree. Maybe he might play a Strat, he might not play the way you like, but that doesn't make it mediocre. It may not move you, but that's your problem, not his.

No his problem is those slippers in that video.;) As for me, I don't have to listen to it, as there's a whole wide world of better music out there than to settle for mediocrity. Some people just have higher standards is all.

Or it could be you're just a mediocre listener.

It could be...if that were the case. But, it's not. Clapton or not, my reputaton is secure.   But I do know this. I've been listening to Clapton for over 40 years now, and he NEVER worked a crowd like this. And...without slippers even! :

Re: Clapton discussion

40 years? So much for the whole elderly thing then huh?

How can we know what Rory would've or wouldn't have worn at age 60 when he didn't make it that far?

We can go back and forth on youtube all day:

Not exactly - as much as I'd love to have a cane as it would be a really cool accessory...I was playing Cream songs by the age of 6, after beginning to play at the age of 4. But if that makes me elderly, I'm thinking you may have some problems with a lot of people on this board. So choose your words carefully. wink

As for the YouTube thing...we could, but it wouldn't change the fact that EC is fashion challenged these days. big_smile

"Groaning The Blues"? Is this a song about how Eric feels in the morning? wink

And Rory would never have worn those slippers. It would've clashed too much with his flannel shirts.

Re: Clapton discussion

I ain't gonna get involved in this exchange. You either like it or you don't !!

BUT this video of Rory is great.
A man communicating with his audience or what !!

Probably went for the whole band as there's a guy in the crowd with a drum stick as well.

There's a couple of open mouth shots of guys in the audience - don't know if this is jaw dropping (as in seeing Joe live for the first time) or just gasping for air due to exertion !!

So glad Rory didn't fall off.
Phew.

Green is not insane, you insist on us giving respect for Clapton, yet give none for the others. He recorded albums in the early 1980s and toured with the Splinter Group for over 8 years until recently so he'd need sanity to do that. Gallagher's death was due to a hospital infection after a liver transplant, it's hardly a basis to suggest one player was better than the other. One thing little known about Gallagher was that he formed a power trio before Cream, back in 1965 - Taste.
Arguments based on ignorance will always be flawed.

John I'll PM you some of my favourite Green songs! smile

Re: Clapton discussion

Could you guys please do me a favour and don´t start fighting on this thread?! It´s far too interesting to be closed because of personal fights ... wink

My personal favourite of the three is Peter Green, but here´s another thought: aren´t those who "survive" and keep on putting out new albums ALWAYS the ones who are considered "mediocre"?!
Look at John Lennon vs. Paul McCartney for example - Paul is respected and he sure released some great albums after the Beatles (but some horrible ones as well), but John is the Legend. Your thoughts?   ...........

Eva

Re: Clapton discussion

Its like all artists Eva if you die in your prime your a genius look at Picasso etc etc

McCartney has to be one of the most annoying peeps ever alongside Ringo's huge ego, the only 2 Beatles I ever cared for was Lennon and Harrison....

Re: Clapton discussion

Dying young doesn't necessarily guarantee legend status, but the odds increase depending on the person's creative contributions.  Lennon, imo, towered over McCartney, but Paul was hardly insignificant or anything less than a major contributor to modern music.

As far as I know Picasso was over 90 when he died. He was showing us  that you can still be creative in your old age - the same for a lot of old blues artists. On the other side there is this archetype of the young artist who is burning high and dies young.....James Dean, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix etc.

Oh man, I'm not even going to touch this one. Actually, I wasn't that big of a Beatles fan back then, I guess the Stones appealed to me much more. But I will say this; John is a Legend because he was shot to death on a New York City street. Paul is still entertaining people and as someone else once mentioned on this forum, everyone that's a Legend is dead already. wink

Roy

P.S. Paul released horrible ones? Just think about some of the "music" John made with Yoko singing. That is if you call that singing; sounds more like nails on a chalkboard.

Joe is the Best!

Re: Clapton discussion

I would not even begin to hop into this discussion. But it has been really interesting.

My advice to Deezer is, go to law school. You'll make an excellent lawyer. If you haven't already thought about it, it's not too late.

And Greenose, you too. Change whatever you're doing for a living and consider it.

You are both excellent at proving your point. That's not something that can always come from years of practice. Some people just have it naturally.

Now, back to the discussion.

Just helping to spread the word about going to see GOOD bands and GOOD live music as often as possible!!!
