Re: Give me some country tunes please :)

Try some Eagles, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Hank Williams, Dolly, Willie Nelson and the Little Willies..

All these guys should have songs that you will both recognise smile tis a good happy medium.

I'm not normally a fan of country music, but here's a couple of more obscure modern things you may like

Hey Shred -

Kenny Chesney is great.

Also, Willie Nelson plays a lot of bluesy [sp] stuff.  One of his CD's was called Milch Cow Blues.

My husband is a huge George Strait fan.  Toby Keith can be kind of fun, too.

Can't listen to this stuff all the time, but does fit in nice when on vacation on a nice beach, or at a NASCAR race.

Check out the Outlaw's self-titled debut album. Great guitar work, great songs, great vocal harmonies. Also very well produced and engineered. It country-rock that rocks!

Amen to that, "There Goes Another Love Song" might be about the best damned country song ever written (IMHO).

Awesome, Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones RIP.....

Also check out Keith Urban's former band CD, "The Ranch". Keith had a pretty awesome instrumental on that one called "Clutterbilly"....

Re: Give me some country tunes please :)

Wow Gunter, you blew my mind there! I haven't heard (or seen in print) the name Jorma Kaukonen for well over 30 years, yet I instantly remembered who he was. I had no idea he'd carried on making music.

Not sure if this is really country, but I love these three gals together, Dolly, Linda and Emmylou -

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=TC-d2AkPq … re=related

Willie Nelson and Emmylou doing a Daniel Lanois song -

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=Aur5KEaNt … re=related

And now for the great grand-daddy who first made country acceptable in the world of 'rock - Gram Parsons - who also formed one half of the greatest duets ever with Emmylou, their voices simply a perfect complement to the other's - first  the Cash on the Barrelhead/Hickory Wind medley from Grievous Angel (a seminally important record imho) -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4oLlg6FxXs

And finally, possibly the most goose-bumpy love duet of all time (yes, they were lovers at the time!)

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=bj8qnzwHUwo

In a nutshell, anything with Emmylou anywhere near it is a winner. cool

Clay Davidson -  Unconditional

unlike the vast majority of country acts these two actually wrote their own songs and played on their own records.

Hi George,
there is Blue Country Heart, relatively new album, solid and well played country....one of the oldies who comes back to basics. What a pitty that Gram Parsons didn´t get older - I love the Grivous Angel album and in special his duets with Emmylou.

Re: Give me some country tunes please :)

Shreddy I'll fix you up next time you stop by. Your best bet is to avoid anybody who wears a hat. Also check writing credits, not too many hats write their own stuff. One of my faves are The Nottinghillbillies (Knopfler & friends) doin' their country thing. I've got Knopflers All The Roadrunnung & Real Live Roadrunning with Emmylou, it doesn't get much better than that. Also got a vast array of Marty Stuart. OK Shreddy, I just went the extra mile and reached into the wall of sounds in the living room, which you thought you probably knew by now, and here's some offerings. Emmylou x 20, The Judds, Steve Earle, John Anderson, Southern Pacific, Highway 101(from Sacto.), Chris Hillman's Desert Rose Band, The Flying Burrito Bros., Best of Graham Parsons, Mark O'Connor, Rodney Crowell, Jimmy Buffett's License To Chill(with all the hats), Charlie Daniels Band, The Tractors(Tulsa's Finest), Dwight Yoakam(Live A+), Gretchen Wilson, Dixie Chicks, Vince Gill, The Maverick's, K.D. Lang's early stuff(A+), Terri Clark, Blackhawk(Henry Paul of The Outlaws country band), David Ball, Austin Hanks, Lucinda Williams, Billy Dean, and of course the basics Willie, Waylon, The Hag, & Patsy Cline. Those are just CD's, the cassette collection is totally whack old school country. Their's a ton o'bluegrass too. You already know about my stash of Southern Rock. Anything else you need Bubba? Just ask.

Gunter, I'm sure you know Emmylou & Graham were more than a singing duet dating back to her singing backup with him in The Burrito Bros. until his untimely passing. You might want to read about the bizarre circumstances surrounding his cremation, if you didn't know already.

Brad Paisley would be a good half way one for you maybe?
You can't go wrong with George Strait!
Clint Black, I can get past his politics to listen, heck there is Toby Keith too for that matter.

there is plenty of country that rocks and plenty thats bluesy depending on your definitions etc. i mostly am familiar with pop country i guess although more so a few years back. I'd put on CMT or a music video thing and that should give you a taste.
there is tons of traditional stuff that many would say is real country not the pop or modern stuff i like.
plenty of country love songs i like those the most and also those that talk about being in the country
so many great female singers too

i'll think about it
something tells me your wife might not dig the Dixe Chicks though
so you looking for fun songs, love, blues, rockin?

BonaJane, you mention here and it's obvious you like many others get your country from CMT and whatever Nashville deems playable on the radio i.e. artists w/ label money behind them. There's a whole 'nother side to country music, but you gotta dig for it. C&W mainstream is just as screwed up or worse than Pop & Rock, wouldn't you agree...........uh oh, maybe I shouldn't get you started, oh WTH, gitr' done.

I know that they were together, but I don´t know anything about G.P.´s death. Where to read about it?
