Re: Ever Walked Out Of A Concert ? And Why?

Aerosmith, Seattle Center Coliseum, 1978. Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush was the opening act, and took the place apart. Aerosmith was so anti-climatic after Frank that I (and lots of others) left shortly after they started playing.

Re: Ever Walked Out Of A Concert ? And Why?

Didn't completely walk out on a show - had tix for a Boston Aerosmith New Year's show back in the late eighties -figured we would show up for the opener - Skid Row - they were so loud and profane we ended up spending their entire act hanging out anywheres but our seats.  I couldn't hear for three days after this 10 minute exposure to them.  They were horrible, but Aerosmith must have improved since Stu's experience 'cause they were great.

This experience kind of backfired on us later.  The next time we went to see Aerosmith we decided to skip the opening act because of the Skid Row experience [it was also when Aerosmith went thru their little spell where no alcohol was sold at their shows so we decided to keep tailgating during the opener].  Anyways, turned out the opener was Guns and Roses.  I didn't miss an opening act for a long time after that faux pas.

Another one -when I was a teenager my future husband and I went to see Grand Funk Railroad in Boston.  When the show was close to over I realized I had lost my car keys.  It was my Dad's car and I was freaked that someone was going to find the keys and steal the car [I know - logically who would know what car the keys went to if they found them].  Anyways, some part of me just had to go look to see if they were in or near the car, so we left before the encore.  Needless to say the encore was Closer to Home, and to this day whenever we hear that song my husband never fails to remind me of this.  [The keys were in the car by the way]

It would be really tough going on after Frank Marino no matter who you were.

Steven Segal at the Coachhouse in CA June 06. Philip Sayce opened for him and tore the place up.
I would have walked out no matter who opened that night. I knew we were in trouble when Segal was introduced as "The Godfather of the Blues".
I lasted about 4 songs then left.

I walked out on Lynyrd Skynyrd. And the band that does "Magic Carpet Ride"  Just lack-luster performances....
Also walked out of Eddie Money, Violent Femmes, Panic at the Disco (obviously), all separate occaissions.
I hope this doesn't make me sound like a snob!

Why would you bother buying tickets for Panic at the Disco?

I don't recall ever having walked out on a band specifically...I ALMOST walked out on an opener once. Hoobastank.

Need I say more. They were opening for Velvet Revolver.

Hmmm...I HAVE walked out on a yoga class once though!

Let's see...Magic Carpet Ride is Steppenwolf, so there's at least two people that have walked out on them!

I saw the lead guy from the Violent Femmes a while back, at Shank Hall (evidently he lives in Milwaukee).
He came out mid show playing a flipping conch shell. I WANTED to leave, but there was some guy named Joe that was due up after him.
Hey Joe, did you hear that guy playing the conch shell that night??

Re: Ever Walked Out Of A Concert ? And Why?

...For the record, Panic at the Disco was on a free stage at Summerfest. And I paid to get into Summerfest (Milwaukee). Steppenwolf and Skynard were Summerfest casualites as well.

LOL there was a band opening for Kenny Wayne Shepherd at Summerfest a couple years ago, and they band had no idea who he was. They mentioned it more than a couple times on stage. They were a blues cover band. They seemed to be laughing at the fact they had no idea who they were opening for. I was like "thats a great way to get on the bad side of the fans who were all KWS fans."

well Sandy I almost walked out on Guns and Roses but didn't because I bummed a ride and had no other way home. i was really in love with their music big time and went all the way to hershey park and was sitting in the nosebleeds in the rain and i forget exactly but i think we waited a ridiculously long time which sucks extra when you don't have money for beer, anyway when they did come out, apparently someone up front said something that pissed off axl and he had a TOTAL hissy fit! THEN walked off stage for a RIDICULOUSLY long time before coming back and having another hissy fit before they played. while we were sitting in the damn rain. a whole stadium of fans sitting in the rain
made me an un-fan right quick
couldn;t enjoy the show after that
get in the ring punk!

Jane,

I did walk out on that punk Axl Rose.  Guns and Roses were a joke of a live band.  They probably have the record for the most shows they walk out on.  They so should have been sued into bankruptcy for all the shows they ruined.  Like you, they started an hour and a half late.  Then Axl comes out and starts challenging people in the audience to fights.  Right before the first song.  He couldn't even sing a song first before he starts yapping his mouth about fighting.  The first thing he does when he's up on stage is to incite his audience.  In fact. he talks more at a concert than he sings.  I had to listen to a 10 minute rant about why he doesn't like Metallica.  They toured with Metallica and Guns and Posers were always late on that tour too.  So after his rant, I just got fed up with him because it was more of an Axl Tantrum than a concert.  Then guess what happened.  Apparently, 15 mins after I left and there was no traffic,  Everybody left.  That's right.  Everybody.  Someone threw a bottle and hit Duff.  So Axl of course said something and walked off stage.  The Tantrum was over.  I don't agree with throwing a bottle but when Axl goes out there to intentionally incite the crowd to fight then that is what happens.

The most unprofessional band I have ever seen.

Joe Bonamassa Belfast 2008 its the one and only concert i have ever walk out on.  My wife told me during Sloe Gin she was pregnant and wasnt feeling well so i had no alternative but to leave.  Ah well maybe he'll come back to a bigger venue in Belfast someday.

Neil

Good man.

It takes a dedicated man to walk out of a show like Joe's because his wife isn't feeling well.

Seriously, I respect that.

Thankyou for the compliment.

Joe, I just don't think you are being phair!!!

Seriously tho, I actually walked out of my first Clapton gig. He was a mess, not taking any solos etc. Thankfully George Terry was a pretty awesome guitarist in his own right and kept things interesting however I was a young pup there to see "God" and so was feeling rather cheated for my hard earned dollar. I think it was then that I realized that my idols were after all, just men with the same weaknesses and human foibles as the rest of us...

Another was Pat Travers arriving over an hour late and obviously under some influence started taunting members of the audience who were put out by his lack of professionalism.

Lastly and sadly I too have witnessed a way way sub-par Buddy Guy performance and on more than one occasion. I have not given him another chance, much to the disgust of some of my buds who still claim when Buddy is on, he is the best, the master etc etc... Of all the old blues crew the ONLY one who never failed to impress and always left me with a smile on my face was the incomparable Albert Collins......

Rascal Flatts - reluctantly went with a friend and had to imagine being in the dentist's chair for some escape.  They were truly awful!  But stuck it out till the end.  That's friendship for you!
