I would rank Carlton as one of the top jazz rock fusion players, but not as a blues rock band. He's made several forays into a bluesy style, and his albums are great, but the vast majority of his work isn't blues rock. As a side note, it's amazing he's alive at all, as in the mid 80's he was shot in the neck at home by an intruder and nearly bled to death. For a long time afterwards he could barely speak, but he continued making albums. Don't know if his condition has gotten better in that regard. I'd imagine so after this much time, unless his vocal cords were permanently damaged.

What a story, thanks Keith. That's what I like about the other artists thread, when you hear about people you do not know. I'll check him out, Robben Ford and Matt Schofield are about as jazzy as I've gone so far.

He is mostly famous as a session player on the 70's Steely Dan Albums
another great 70's jazz rock fusion band he played for on recordings was the Crusaders, one of my all time favs very funky jazzy
Gary Moore himself would never put himself about Peter Green

Yes I mean above. He does of course use Peter's guitar... which confirms what I meant to say earlier.

Not anymore. Gary sold Peter's '59 LP a few years ago. Green sold it to Gary Moore in 1972. Typical of Green, he sold it without regard for money, more or less letting Moore set the price.
Fast forward to March of '06- Moore sold one Phil Winfield of North Carolina's Maverick Music, thinking Winfield was acting as an intermediary for a private collector. No one will disclose the exact sale price, but it's rumored to be around half a million dollars. Moore wanted a discreet sale, and had a written agreement stating that the guitar was not going to a guitar dealer, and that it would not be advertised on Maverick Music's website.
Winfield claims that he had a collector lined up, but that publicity made the collector back out, and he sold it to Winfield for a $50,000 profit. Moore was angered by this, and spoke to the press about it, saying bad things about Winfield. Winfield then alleged that by speaking to the press, Moore had breached the contract, leaving him free to advertise it on his website, which he did. He says he has turned down an offer of $1.3 million for it.
Suprisingly,Winfield dosen't go all coy when asked how much he paid for the guitar.'The word's kind of out there on the Les Paul forum that it was a million dollars,'he acknowledges.'They're doing me a favour,as that's slightly more than I paid. I believe it's worth more than Blackie.I think it's crucially important in the history of rock and roll-after all,it inspired Jeff Beck, Clapton and George Harrison to go out and buy a Les Paul. This is my opinion and people will shoot me down or agree, but I bought the guitar with that in mind,so it affected what I paid.'
So is the Peter Green Les Paul really worth as much as,say,Clapton's Blackie Strat? Moore agrees that it's 'a very valuable guitar',but reckons it's not up there with Blackie or Hendrix's Woodstock Strat in terms of monetary value.
'You go on discussion forums and a lot of guys don't know who Peter Green is,' he points out."Was he on Rumours?" You actually get that! The Crossroads 335 didn't go for that kind of money. All it does is push up the price up for everybody.'
'I'm shocked and quite traumatized by the whole episode,' he adds.'I had the guitar for almost 35 years and it was a big wrench to let it go. In recent interviews Gary has reiterated the facts surrounding the factors leading him to sell Greeny.
He states a hand injury, allied with an insurance snafu, causing him great expense, coupled with him having to cover lost tour date expenses out of his own pocket.

That was the last rock tour with Whitesnake and Y&T....
Not to mention he is still embroiled in a situation akin to the "My Sweet Lord"/"She's So Fine" saga with a German artist claiming Gary copied the main riff for "Still Got The Blues" from a mid 70's tune of his........

And there was me thinking Still Got The Blues was copied from the riff of Gary's own song Parisian Walkways! Good to see some have recognised the importance of Peter green though.
