Topic: Amazing Coincidences and "Isn’t it ironic, don't you think"?

After a particularly crap day in the office yesterday I got on the train home with a splitting headache, turned on my mp3 player which was on ‘random play all’ and the first track was, you guessed it “Pain and Sorrow”. It brought an immediate smile to my face but didn’t do my headache much good – LOL big_smile

This is the second coincidink that’s happened this week so I’m hoping that I beat the odds of 76m:1 and scoop the Euromillions lottery on Friday night, which has an estimated jackpot of £92m ($163m and falling sad).

The first was at the weekend when Mrs W and I were talking about asking her friend, who she hadn’t seen for several years, if she wanted to collect some firewood for their fire. During the conversation the phone rang and my wife heard the caller say “hello Kathryn” (my wife’s name), “it’s Penny” (her friend’s name). You might think that’s not unusual as I’ve heard of similar happenings before, but what made this even more spooky is that it was a wrong number! What are the chances of that happening? wink

Anyone else had any similar experiences?

Hi Jane,

I have only 1040 tracks (87 albums) on mine at the moment. It's amazing how often songs from live albums come up on mine, or maybe it isn't - as I've said before elsewhere, I love live albums wink.

Phil - my life, particularly in the last several years, seems to be so filled with coincidences, that I simply wouldn't know where to start.  I'll tell you this much........ generally some totally RANDOM name, word, phrase enters the conversation - I will say something like, "The King of Siam"........ something I've rarely, or, in most cases NEVER had occasion to utter before in my life........ THEN, usually within hours and always within a day........ I'll be listening to the television, or will be in another conversation, or walking by someone in a restaurant and BAM - there it is - SOMEONE saying, 'blah, blah, blah......THE KING OF SIAM......."

Happens ALLLLLLLL the time to me........... WHAT does it MEAN??????  Am I psychic?  Am I keenly aware???  Does it mean NOTHING???  It really began to happen so often that I started to keep a small journal of them..........

Those are just SOME of the coincidences that happen to me - the 'random' ones - there are countless others that hold much more meaning and seem to be an obvious matter of FATE - many of those things have happened as a result of my time spent here and the lovely relationships I have forged and continue to discover and unfold.  A magnificent thing, really.  Magically magnificent.

I believe in a cosmic conciousnous and every one on the planet is plugged into it. It just seems that some people are more in tune with it and aware of it. How else can you explain
some of the things that we're talking about right now. Deja vu. Its not scarey but when it happens to me its always that I had lived the exact moment in a dream......I believe in this stuff.

Hi Wibby, smile

Your experiences are truly wierd and I mean that in the nicest possible way. You mean you just blurt out random phrases for no apparent reason, or do they just come into your head?

I've no idea what it means, but Jack may have the answer.

Jack, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try to remember it next time I'm afflicted smile Thankfully, it's gone for the moment.

Phil
PS: it happened again last night. Out of my 1040 tracks Woke up Dreaming was immediately followed by Pain and Sorrow big_smile I'm not complaining, of course! I'm sure my mp3 is intelligent as it definitely wasn't on 'Most Popular' hmm

In my humble opinion, there is no such thing as coincidence.  I believe that everything happens for a reason.  Without getting into a metaphysical discussion as to my spiritual beliefs, we may not know what the reason is, but there is always a reason.

Hi Phil,

I am NOT denying my weirdness - I embrace my weirdness - lol - WEIRD WIBBY - but, no, I don't just sit around blurting out random things...... and they don't just pop into my head either....... they are always PART of the conversation - somehow the conversation LEADS me to say them.....like...... someone will bring up baldness....... and then that will lead to mentioning Yul Brynner, and THAT will lead to my saying, "Yes, I believe he played the King of Siam in "The King and I""......... then, an hour later, the "King and I" will appear on television.......or, I'll be speaking with someone else and ask what they're doing....... "oh not much...... just watching "The King and I"....... that's all"  THAT'S the kind of thing that happens........ ALL the time.

My husband and I often say the exact same thing at the exact same time. It happened most frequesntly when we first started spending time together over 15 years ago, but it still happens regularly. Its kinda scary...... and yeah we both said that at the same time too.... then we had a chinese dinner when first dating and the fortune said There is no fear in love, but the perfect love casteth out fear. Now we are scared to be apart.

Hey, Jane. That kind of thing happens quite often to me and hubby. We sometimes make the exact same comment at the exact same time. I guess when you have shared a zillion years together you have so much shared experience etc that it's bound to happen occasionally. Still, it never fails to make you stop in your tracks and just look at each other wide-eyed. it gives me a kind of fuzzy feeling of intimacy. On the other hand, if the words said are a little bit strange or silly it makes me think, 'oh,my God. We BOTH need help!' lol

I MUST comment on this one. It is one of the things that has been proven time and time again right on this forum. There are "coinkydinks" that defy random acts. I too believe it's all a matter of paying attention. Some say "God is in the details"....Here, I'm convinced it's all part of the JoMo magic created by his music. My most recent was yesterday. My "brother" Chris, from Nothin But Trouble, is here with my family. When George and I went to meet them he asked George if there was a Blues Club nearby. George said yes and it's called "Bourbon Street"...the irony..Chris had on a baseball hat with "Bourbon Street" on it. These things put a big smile on my face. I see it as a way for the Universe to tell me I'm on the right path.                 Cathy

When I was a very young man I moved up to London to work and took a small room in Soho.
Well, I don't think I've ever felt so lonely or cut-off in my life. I didn't know a soul in London.
I was seriously thinking of packing the job in and heading for 'home'.

Four o' clock in the morning I was walking along an almost deserted Oxford Street feeling as low as can be.I literally walked into a guy coming the other way, we exchanged a few muttered words and as I started off , he called me back using my first name.

It turned out - I had been on holiday with this guy when I was ten or twelve, our mothers had been teachers together years before.

I stayed in London. - coincidence ? maybe, maybe.

Here is another good one - explain this.

An old friend of mine had middle-aged parants who were pretty steady types and creatures of habit.

Every day -he would go off to work and collect his cigs and newspaper from the cornershop on the way to the office.

One day- She is in a Mall at 10am and suddenly and inexplicably decides to buy the same paper that her husband buys every day.

When they get home - They discover that he did buy a newspaper but left it on the counter. He realised this during his coffee break at 10am.

This is long before mobiles, they were 12 miles apart and there was no contact between the two all that day.
