Topic: TOAD'S Show!!

I'm not great at all the big words to describe a show but every show seems top the last. I was in the 2nd row center and as soon as he starts up the stairs to the stage you feel it! I don't want to seem dramatic but I almost get moved to tears by the middle of his shows. Last night it was 45 seconds in to the show. I don't know what it was but you could feel HIS passion in every note. I think for most of us out here a review of a JOE B show is sorta redundant. But it is cool to see people that "have all his albums, but this is my 1st show" leaving the venue wide eyed! Ok here are the downsides of the show: The opening act was really sad. I felt like I was watching 3 guys rehearsing for the 1st time. (I think they were!) And the other was those spotlights that would hit the crowd........Joe must have saw 100 people with their eyes closed! They were so bright! Well that's my update.......oh in another topic people are getting a bit bitchy with one another. I hope it stops because it's been better out here lately and of it starts again I know I'll be gone! I think you all know what I'm talking about. See you in Foxborough and Ridgefield! Thanks Joe,Bogie,Carmine and Rick!!!!

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Great review, well said the Stepchild.  Each show is special, no matter and many you have seen or how long they play...

Have fun with the upcoming shows...

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Agreed. first show was lame. My first JB show, front row- OUTSTANDING! He should of been at the Crossroads Concert with Clapton. We will be seeing him whenever we can.

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Unreal show.  Spike Driver Blues is quite the opener.  Many acts would use something that good for their closer, but for Joe it is just a taste and a promise of what's to come.  Where we were sitting it was hard to hear the vocals clearly, so will have to figure them out at another show! smile   There is no way we can wait until February to get a recording of this (hint, hint -special bonus track on i-tunes, ep, something?)

The whole band sounds so good together-it's like these guys have been playing together for their whole life and yet it's only been a little over a year.

Saw quite a lot of different ages there - there were two kids sitting near us who were 10 and 11 years old, and lots of 20-somethings - good sign for the future, eh Cathy?  The ten year old told me it was his second show!

Joe was his usual gracious self after the show, thank you Joe for continuing to meet us and sign our stuff and spending a few minutes of your time with us.  We really appreciate it.  Thanks, too, for signing my avatar picture!

Nice week-new album, first show since November.  It's all good.

Sandy

I put a few pics in the Cool Pictures section.

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Yeah, so this was my ninth show, and I agree that each show is better and better. I must agree too that the band seems to be amazingly tight after seeing them almost a year ago at Groton with Sam Bush. I've never heard them play that first song Spike Driver Blues before, and It reminded me of when I was in North Hampton MA hearing Sloe Gin for the first time before the album was even released. BLOWN AWAY!!! Blues Deluxe had a new feel, and very cool long intro. I was so busy getting psyched to go to Toads Wed., that I forgot tickets for Ridgefield went on sale that day. I figured no problem, get them online Thurs. right? Nope. Although I was able to get second row orchestra, I was bummed, not surprised to see most of center orchestra already purchased! Even a year ago, this would not have happened. Joe's skill, soul, personality, talent, emotion, combined with his drive, and marketing program has obviously fast forwarded his fan base. He's not going to be called under rated, or up coming for very much longer by the critics. I never thought I'd be a fan of anyone. Joe, you got me. I'm a fan for life! Can't wait for BB Kings and Ridgefield for shows #10 and #11 in October. I'm really enjoying being a fan during this time of Joe's unfolding super stardom. Spread the word of JOE!!!

Life is too short. Listen to great blues music.

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Thanks to all for the reviews. Sandy, I am smiling! As long as the younger girls don't start screaming thru the whole show we're safe. And, a big welcome to the new members. Have fun!!                           Cathy

Who needs big words???  You nailed it!!!  I always feel that way too - about each show topping the last.  And, why NOT seem dramatic???  It IS dramatic!!!  and EMOTIONAL!!!  Nice review - I'm so glad you were able to be so close and to be so moved.  Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to the Forum historichouseguy!  Aren't you the lucky one???  First Joe show and you were in the front row???  Good for you!  You're SPOILED now though........ burdened with the knowledge of the BEST!!!

Crossroads with Clapton?  If I'm not mistaken, I believe that Joe WAS invited, but was previously committed in Europe.  (please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.......)

WELCOME DocJones.  My diagnosis is, you've got the Bonamassabug, and you've got it BAAAAAAAAD.  Luckily, that's a good thing...... a very good thing indeed.  Take two more shows, and call me in the morning.  LOL.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM CLrides!!!  Where have you been???  Ninth show and you're just gettin' here???  I'm glad you found us...... we will LOVE to hear more of your enthusiasm for all things JOE and we, hopefully, will get you even more excited with OURS!!!

Spike Driver Blues is new to the set list.  I was lucky enough to hear it in Hollywood first, and then captured it at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano two nights later.  Perhaps you've not seen the video - here's the link:

and, another new member, Michael, posted this one yesterday.......

I think we are all in agreement - GREAT SONG - CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT!!!!

I know what you mean about the fast forwarded fan base........ I have mixed feelings...... it's SO FANTASTIC FOR JOE, but, will mean a few sacrifices for us.......  but, it IS the greatest time to be a fan - as it all unfurls........

THANKS ALL!!!  For the FUN REVIEWS and COMMENTS!!!

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Hello, everyone.  A CT street team member would like to know if anyone wrote or has a copy of the set list from Joe's appearance at Toad's Place last week.  If so, please email it to me so I can share that with him.  Thanks!

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Agree with the Stepchild. Glad I didn't do any acid. I would have had to run out screaming during that opening act.
This is my first post and It may have been done before but I just wanted to say how impressed I was with Carmine Rojas. A musician who has been around for so long but still seems to be auditioning because of his attention to detail.
This may have been said before also but when I listen to Joe at these live shows I know I am in the presence of greatness. He made me laugh by thanking everyone for coming out on a school night. I think most in attendence haven't been to class in quite a while.
All I can say is Joe is the real deal, appealing to all music lovers, and we are lucky to have experienced this in our lifetime.

Toad's needs to update their sound system.

See you at Foxboro and probably Lebenon.

OK just curious, hockey77 Ray Bourque fan? You mention going to Foxboro show. I don't know where you are but you have to try to make Ridgefield Playhouse. Nice venue to see Joe. (I know like venue matters!)

Re: TOAD'S Show!!

Thanks Libby and Tripsy for the welcomes. Thanks also for the you tube links for spike driver. Who originally wrote, and played that song? It's not a Joe original right? Well, I'm amping on seeing him next month twice in one weekend. Guess I'll watch those spike driver you tube links until then. I'm bringing two Newbies to the Oct. show at BB Kings in NYC. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces after they witness Joe ,Bogey,Carmine, and Rick.
