Topic: The weather rant topic

Vent your anger or dismay here, let it all hang out.

I don't want to see any happy Californians in here unless you're complaining, ok? This is for pissed off people, like us poor sods in Holland. We had 10 days of summer back at the beginning of May, and that's been it so far. Today was really the pits, unseasonably cool, wet and windy.

I WANT SOME WARMTH! And I don't mean US style HEAT. I'll settle for a gentle 25c or so, mid 70's say, I'd be real happy with that right now. sad

Re: The weather rant topic

I totally empathise with you George. Our weather here has been very much the same. We've had odd days when you suddenly realise 'Oh yes it is summer, I'd forgotten' and then the next day it's wet and windy again.
What can you do? Not a lot. At least we don't have to spend hours watering the garden!

George:

You didn't like our 35 degree (See I even used Celsius for you.) with 95% humidity days when you were here?  Having one today and I'm going to see Joe Cocker and the Steve Miller Band.

Hope all is well on the other than the weather on the other side of the pond.

Re: The weather rant topic

One happy Californian here to serve, George.  Um..... let's see.....how's 112 F degrees with a little stickiness grab ya??  Bad enough??  It's not the 119-121 F degree stuff we had a few weeks ago, but, it ain't purdy either.  NO SIR.  It ain't purdy, at all.

I actually have NO CLUE how warm the insides of our vehicles become on any given day, but, I can tell you this..... they get warm enough to MELT a hard plastic CD case into an unusable warped mess, when left on the dashboard.  I'd venture a guess at somewhere between 150-160 degrees.  Every year, some idiot decides to take their pet out to run errands and then leaves them behind in the car, for 'just a minute'.  It only takes MINUTES to kill those poor things.  IDIOTS.  Thankfully, they began to run a public service announcement on television every summer, warning against this very real possibility.  They start the video showing a dog, sitting, panting on the front seat of a car...... seconds later, while they have been EDUCATING THE DUMMIES WITH THE AUDIO TRACK, they pan back to the car and show a HOT DOG complete with BUN on the seat in place of the dog - cooked.  Pretty effective visual.

Let me tell you, yesterday, I made the VERY silly decision to go for a walk at 9:00 am.  Sounds reasonable, right??  I mean, come ON, how HOT could it possibly get at 9:00 am??  Pretty darn hot.  Really hot.  I mean, I'm talkin' that pavement had been cookin' up in the sun for three hours before my little feet hit it and, by the time I DID hit it, it was like being inside a little brick oven with the door cracked.  I tried walkin' on the sidewalks - that wasn't much better.  I gave up after a mile and spent much of the day fighting a headache and nausea.  It was BAAAAAAD.  It was also terrible last night.  I tried again, at about 10:00 when it was a chilly 98F degrees or so - um.... no thank you.

SIX o'clock in the a.m. THIS morning...... MUCH BETTER...... still warm, but, NOT nausea inducing!!!  Two miles was quite enough though.

Now, next week, I'll be in Laguna - and, well, you just don't want to hear ANYTHING about that - but, suffice it to say, the WEATHER should NOT be a factor in my walking routine.

So, does anyone NEED some sun??  'Cause we've got plenty to share.......  send me a cool breeze and I'll send you some rays.  I had to send some to my poor brother who will be in Finland for a year and is already missing the sun.  I know that a few of you will remember back in the glorious spring when I made the mistake of going public with my JOY over our weather.  I told you that I'd pay for that.  This is the price we pay..... it'll get REALLY bad again soon...... ugh.  People and pets actually do DIE under those conditions.  (not really a rant - just the facts Jack!!)

Hydrate, park in the shade, and don't go out if you don't have to,

Been the same here in Scotland (not that you'd be surprised, but we do normally get some decent days).

Still I guess we don't have to worry about desertification for a while yet...

Re: The weather rant topic

I walked out to get my mail today - barefoot - across my lawn, until I had to step onto the sidewalk, for just a SECOND, seriously..... just long enough to open the box, pull the mail out, close it....... MY POOR LITTLE TOOTSIES were being SEARED by the sidewalk - IMMEDIATELY!!!  I had to hop back and forth and move from the balls of my feet to my heels just to spread the PAIN!  Honestly!  By the time I shut the mailbox, I had to JUMP back onto the lawn!!!  OUCH, OUCH, OUCH !!!!!  Big dummy!!!  I REALLY should know better.

Re: The weather rant topic

It's a fundamental truism that those of us who inhabit the north-west corner of Europe love nothing more than complaining about the weather, whatever it is. We're rarely happy. big_smile

We've now had nice warm temperatures for quite a few days and it's even getting up into the mid 80's (27-30c) tomorrow and Monday, BUT - buckets of rain in places, and I mean buckets like on Roy's clip...thunderstorms, hail, wind bursts, and the kind of humidity that only Americans are used to. Since most of us over here don't have airco (we've never needed it) I've been sitting in only shorts tonight as it's too muggy for anything more.

(As an aside and apropos of nothing in particular, I've just introduced my 29 year old German roomie to Skynyrd. She likes! big_smile )
