One happy Californian here to serve, George. Um..... let's see.....how's 112 F degrees with a little stickiness grab ya?? Bad enough?? It's not the 119-121 F degree stuff we had a few weeks ago, but, it ain't purdy either. NO SIR. It ain't purdy, at all.
I actually have NO CLUE how warm the insides of our vehicles become on any given day, but, I can tell you this..... they get warm enough to MELT a hard plastic CD case into an unusable warped mess, when left on the dashboard. I'd venture a guess at somewhere between 150-160 degrees. Every year, some idiot decides to take their pet out to run errands and then leaves them behind in the car, for 'just a minute'. It only takes MINUTES to kill those poor things. IDIOTS. Thankfully, they began to run a public service announcement on television every summer, warning against this very real possibility. They start the video showing a dog, sitting, panting on the front seat of a car...... seconds later, while they have been EDUCATING THE DUMMIES WITH THE AUDIO TRACK, they pan back to the car and show a HOT DOG complete with BUN on the seat in place of the dog - cooked. Pretty effective visual.
Let me tell you, yesterday, I made the VERY silly decision to go for a walk at 9:00 am. Sounds reasonable, right?? I mean, come ON, how HOT could it possibly get at 9:00 am?? Pretty darn hot. Really hot. I mean, I'm talkin' that pavement had been cookin' up in the sun for three hours before my little feet hit it and, by the time I DID hit it, it was like being inside a little brick oven with the door cracked. I tried walkin' on the sidewalks - that wasn't much better. I gave up after a mile and spent much of the day fighting a headache and nausea. It was BAAAAAAD. It was also terrible last night. I tried again, at about 10:00 when it was a chilly 98F degrees or so - um.... no thank you.
SIX o'clock in the a.m. THIS morning...... MUCH BETTER...... still warm, but, NOT nausea inducing!!! Two miles was quite enough though.
Now, next week, I'll be in Laguna - and, well, you just don't want to hear ANYTHING about that - but, suffice it to say, the WEATHER should NOT be a factor in my walking routine.
So, does anyone NEED some sun?? 'Cause we've got plenty to share....... send me a cool breeze and I'll send you some rays. I had to send some to my poor brother who will be in Finland for a year and is already missing the sun. I know that a few of you will remember back in the glorious spring when I made the mistake of going public with my JOY over our weather. I told you that I'd pay for that. This is the price we pay..... it'll get REALLY bad again soon...... ugh. People and pets actually do DIE under those conditions. (not really a rant - just the facts Jack!!)
Hydrate, park in the shade, and don't go out if you don't have to,
Libby
I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-
