Re: Liverpool - City of Culture 2008

Hi Folks, I have only just checked out all your amazing reviews from Liverpool. I spent a couple of days with my family, who live just over the other side of the Mersey and only got home last night.
Eva, what a beautifully written two-parter. Like I said to you in the Nelson, your English is very good. Oh and I'm sorry for mentioning THAT faux pas of yours but it was very funny smile.
It was fantastic to meet so many forum buddies before the show; Nightfly, Steelydad, the guys from London, Lynn and Laurence, Libby and Just John, Eva and Angela, Geoff and Sue and Michael (glad you made it). Oh and Matt who I didn't meet til after the show. Sorry for ruffling your hair!
As for the main event it was brilliant. I wasn't right at the front but Rosie and I were about three people back at the left side of the stage.
The new version of Don't Burn Down That Bridge was really rocking and it was great to hear High Water Everywhere and Heartaches. I took three videos which I haven't uploaded yet of DBDTB, High Water and Just Got Paid which was awesome when Joe came over to our side for the solo.
It was the first time for a friend of ours called Dave and he was totally blown away. He said he hasn't been so impressed since he saw Jimi Hendrix at the Isle of Wight festival back in 1970!
After the show we were hanging around outside waiting to meet Joe and the guys and Carmine came out. He spoke to us for a good ten minutes, he is such a gentleman. Then unfortunately we had to go for our train so didn't get to meet Joe, Rick or Bogie.
Joe, I hope you liked the present.

Eva, I'm very happy you and Angela had such a groovy time in Liverpool.

Lyn and Laurence, you had a very long journey up but it was worth it eh?

Libby and Just John, sorry you had such a nightmare journey home, hope your back is ok Libby.

Thank you Joe, Carmine, Rick and Bogie for a very special gig in Liverpool. Please come again.

Love Tripsy big_smile

Re: Liverpool - City of Culture 2008

Yes Greenose
Couldn't agree more !!

I also love the build up to a gig and Eva's report was a very enjoyable read and the pix just made it better. This one seemed such a special gig for some reason - maybe because forum guys got together, the build up posts that were on here, or maybe because it was only a small number of gigs in the UK (and Dublin of course). Dunno, but even though I couldn't be there, I feel a special tingle to have been a "cyberpart" of it.

Fantastic to share such warmth through the computer.

Mountain Time.
I know exactly what the comments mean. If ever given the chance, not sure I could sing it all the way through on a stage.........if you know what I mean. Hey. I'm a bloke. We don't admit to that kind of thing wink

And being at the sound check. It's fantasy land !!
What a tremendous gesture from the guys.

Yes great reviews folks, in particular Eva. Sometimes I think the background and details prior to the gig builds up the excitement as you read the review. Great pictures too. glad you got one with Joe. Ironic that I was in Germany at the time you were flying to the UK to see Joe. Maybe see you at the RAH instead! smile

If there is anything to get me motivated to get my tickets for Gateshead it is reading the reviews on here and from the other side of the Irish Sea - roll on November! (weather can't get much worse anyway!)

Re: Liverpool - City of Culture 2008

I'm a bit late to the posting as I've been a bit busy the past 3 days wink

After reading all these great reviews theres not really much more i can say, Liverpool was a great gig and it was really good to meet lots of people from the forum. Oh, no worries Tripsy, it was nice to meet you smile

I'll attempt a review of the Belfast gig as i think it would be my favourite of the liverpool dublin ann belfast gigs. Also, belfast is close enough to me to be counted as my home city so it was extra special big_smile

Re: Liverpool - City of Culture 2008

Got my tickets, row FF! Sounds like it may not be the front row though!

Hope to see you there Ges, Tripsy and co.

That's the thing about seated venues, you need to be quick off the mark to get near the front! Glad I've done it now anyway, and sorry to take over your topic!

Maybe I'll start one called Gateshead four months today!

You sure will.
We're on FF as well.
Back row of the stalls I believe - but raised up.

Geoff - sorry about highjacking this thread, but I couldn't let Greenose wait any longer, knowing we were already on back row.

These reviews are so great.  Eva, being such a childhood "Beatle-Maniac" your pictures and stories have warmed my heart so immensely.  Thanks so much.  I knew that Walk In My Shadows was out of the mix and YOU ARE SO RIGHT ON that the new one to march to is Another Kind of Love.   Someday I hope to get over there to meet all of you wonderful people.

Seriously contemplating going to manchester then up to gateshead next day :x

Re: Liverpool - City of Culture 2008

Manchester is all standing and I think it's the big room so you shouldn't have problems getting a good position if you are prepared to queue on the night. Gateshead is all seated and as above tickets seem to be moving fast. There's still Birmingham, where you could make a day of it. Joe was saying on Monday that he thinks he is doing a couple of appearances at the Gibson booth at the show during the day before his concert in the evening. Not sure whether his set is a full set or whether he has to share the evening with other bands with the obviously shortened set - can anyone advise?

Interesting that Geoff. Having known Gateshead was all seater, I'd naively assumed all the venues on the November tour were to be seater. Without going over an old arguement, I might have preferred to go to Manchster instead as I prefer to stand. Lucky Brummies if then can see him twice in one day!
