Topic: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

This was a magical moment.....like when I saw JB at BB's for the first time.....or Sonny Landreth at the Rex.....or Peter Green at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh.....or Lowell George and Little Feat at the old Leona in Homestead.....

Davey Knowles is a prodigy, period.  And one hell of a nice guy.....as is the bassist Adam(?).....didn't get to meet the drummer, Ross (?) as it was raining quite hard and he seemed to be the only one out of the 4 of us with enough sense to get in out of the rain.....

Short and sweet, cuz I'm really tired.....they opened with Outside Woman Blues, and had the crowd in the palm of their hand.....culminating with the sky lighting up with lightning as they tore into Red House.....I just don't know what to say.  I honestly felt like I was witnessing history 20 years before it would ever be realized and looked back upon again.....

Like I said, it rained pretty good at the end.....but I did get to meet Adam, and Davey.....and gave them the last 3 Yuenglings from the cooler, which they seem to have grown a taste for.....

btw, Joe?  It was rainin' so freakin' hard that their merchandise table booked (in a hurry, I might add...), so I had Davey sign the front of my new JB t-shirt I got in Canton.....he asked "Are you sure?" and I replied....."Well, hell.....it's my shirt, ain't it??"

If it helps.....he wrote "Joe Rocks" before he signed it.....

Almost forgot the best thang of all.....there was a crowd of maybe 20-30 18ish year olds up against the fence diggin' the hell out of the show.....obviously well versed.  It was like lookin' at myself 40 years ago.....the blues is safe for another generation.....

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

Very well said Jim. Pleasure meeting you.  The 20 or 30 "kids" That we're against the fense all night had been there from 6, a good hour before the show. They all were yelling DAVEY, ROSS, ADAM.  As you pointed out last night seeing all those kids singing to every song, word for word. Playing air guitar and dancing was so refreshing. I thought they should be listening to hip hop.  These were kids that had just graduated high school. I'll try and add more later when the swelling goes down in my hand. I got attacked by the killer wasp and have sausages for fingers.  Looks like a boxing glove.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

Thanks for the heads up on these guys. The hype lived up to my expectations and then some. As SRV pointed out it was great to see the next generation so into this style of music. Redhouse, King of the road, and Almost cut my hair were done awesomely. Their original tunes were just as great as well. Naturally the frontman Davey gets the most attention. Awesome voice and super guitar playing, but the band as a whole sounded tremendous as well !!! I'm on these guys' bandwagon for sure.  BTW: Thanks for the YUENGLING Jim.

Tell me about the car i saw parked outside your door ? Tell me what you left me waiting two or three hours for ? Tell me why when the phone rings, baby, your up and across the floor ? Please dont keep me wondering no more.....

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

I hate to say "I TOLD YA!" but....... :-)

They're awesome, and SOOOO nice.  Glad you enjoyed the show, Jeff, I hope your hand feels better soon.

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

Glad you made it out there Deron & Jim.....Yes I think it was history in the making for sure. And I have to thank Jeff for letting me know how great of a band they are too! What happened to Barb & Tom?
.
Sorry you had to leave a bit early Jeff with your Wasp stung hand/wrist hope you'll be ok.
.
I managed to get Davey's autograph too before all hell broke loose with that storm.
We all lucked out with that show for sure...I hope they will come back to the Rex
.
P/s  Jim I'll see you @ Moondog's -Chris Duarte on Wednesday night! Bring Earplugs it will be Very Loud!

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

I couldn't agree more about seeing history in the making. So this is what it takes to get youngsters to like the blues...and that also pleases me. I see Joe and BDS as the future of the genre and take great comfort in that fact. I never feel like I'm cheating on Joe..I feel like they are on the same team and at different stages in their careers. It's all good! Cathy

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

Not exactly a hard sell huh, SRV? No arm twisting involved at all. Like Cathy said, Joe's the senior QB running the varsity and Davy's the JV QB with a bullett poised to fill bigger shoes. Can't wait for them to get out west again. Next time I see them they will play in front of tens of thousands at a huge festival in Golden Gate Park.

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

Hey Jeff.....I hope you don't have sausage BBQ on the menu!!

Sorry about the hand, man.....I know the feeling.  Had a yellow jacket do that to me once, and it wasn't pretty!

I guess that explains losing track of you last night.....although I was so freakin' mesmerized by that show that the whole crowd coulda left and I wouldn't have known it.  Very nice meeting you too.....hopefully we can hook up in Wheeling.....

Darrin, great to see you again buddy, and yer more than welcome to the beer.....thanks for luggin' that 100# cooler around!!  Next time, I'm bringin' cans.....lighter, and within the "No glass" rule!!

Great to meet you Don, and I'm hoping to see you at Moondog's.....I just pulled up Chris Duarte on youTube.....hell yeah!!!

btw, I see a local kid that I like a lot plays there too.....Guitar Zack & No Slack.  Now, Zack is a little whacked, but he's a fabulous blues guitarist.  Tell me this isn't the best web site EVER!!

http://www.zackwiesinger.com/

Cathy, I'm still shakin' my head.  It was one of those nights that, well.....you know.....it was magical.....

How cool would it be to get the Boys from the Isle of Man on the BluesCruise, huh???

Carl, you can say "I told ya so..." 'til the cows come home.....that band is a freakin' gem man.....

Dawg.....hard sell??  HA!!!  Like I said about JB's show in Canton.....they had 'em by the throat from the very first note!!  Still shakin' my head here.....

Another cool thang I forgot to mention last night:  After the first couple of tunes, Davey walks up to the mic and says "We weren't even sure anyone would show up!!"  Hard to tell how many people were there, but I'd guess between 2-3 thousand.....and you could tell the boys appreciated it.....

Also, their transportation was very cool.....a non-descript white van pullin' what looked like a 2 horse trailer.....payin' dues.....

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

The hand is not as swollen today and pain is gone. So I think I'm gonna live. Thanks guys. I did take the long walk back to the car during the end of Red House and sat there for the last song. Been  down so very damn long.    After the rain started it got so darn cold I was trembling. Thought maybe the sting was starting to get to me.
We did get the pleasure of a debut of a new track. Finish what I started.  It was more straightforward rock. Kept waiting for a screaming solo that never came.   He did really let loose during It'll all come around. Awesome extended lead.
All in all it was a great afternoon and the best part was the "kids" As everyone else has said with Joe, Ryan Mcgarvey and Davey attracting the younger fans the blues is alive and well.
I was so excited that it was an outdoor show but now looking back it doesn't give you a chance to sit down and chat with the boys.  They did have a fantastic turnout and hopefully they can get more dates here in Pittsburgh. I'll post a link to a few video clips shortly.

OK here's a few clips I took from my dig camera. Not bad but not very good. Only had one hand and was kinda shakey.

Hey Don, Darrin and SRV.  Sorry Tom and I didn't make it last night.  We were definitely going to come but Tom started a house project on Sunday that took much longer to finish than he thought it would take.  Sounds like we missed a fantastic show.  Hopefully they will come back to Pittsburgh again.  Pittsburg Jeff hope your hand is much better from the wasp sting.  Those stings are nasty.  Thanks for the heads on them guys.  DON you POSTED.................YEAH!!  Keep those posts coming.

Whoa man are you all right now?  I stepped on a yellow jacket barefoot yesterday.  They are the only wasp existing that cause me any pain, but my poor wife and kids swell like you.  Very scary.  I need to email you anyway.

I am really hating not seeing these young lads.  One day I will.

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

You know how you guys in the States get jealous when Joe is pulling up stumps here in the UK (sell out gigs everywhere on the last tour) when you're missing him like crazy? Well that's how we feel over here about BDS, and we haven't had a chance to really see them yet. I'm really hoping that their management and Joe's can get their heads togther for Joe's upcoming tour of the UK in November, how great would it be to see both of them together for some big gigs here and how good would it be to launch BDS into the UK.

Still I can't blame them for sticking it out in the US, they are on a crest of a wave, with their album high in the American Blues chart, sell out dates over there, mechandising  etc etc. I guess they would have to start from scratch over here, that's why I think it would be good for the blues to get them together for a knockout tour in the UK in November.

Re: BDS.....OK, I'm sold.....

You all may find this as interesting as I did....the Editor's page of this month's Blues Review is about honoring the old bluesmen but the need to continue to introduce new, young players who will be the future of the blues. He then says that in an upcoming issue they will profile "a British blues-rock band that's climbing the charts and whose average age is 20." Now, in my opinion that HAS to be BDS. Time will tell.      Cathy

Geoff....Come on over!!!!

I echo Geoff's sentiments here. Whilst I'm chomping at the bit to see these guys live over here (especially if it's part of a Joe show in November...which is a fine idea if ever I heard one....pretty please!!), I totally appreciate them staying over there with you guys, rocking from place to place, and flying high in the Blues Chart, and am really happy for them. It's one of those flip side of the coin jobbies! They deserve every ounce of success that they achieve though, and I'm optimistic for the future of blues music with guys like this grabbing the reins.

Barb & Tom I was very disapointed you guys did not make it...I thought maybe it was 'cause of the weather??? (you could have finished the project when you got home--L.O.L--"show was over at 9.20")

Good news..It's true. The article is being written by the same fellow that did the review. He lives in Colorado so it will happen when they are in the area. Again, I feel like a proud parent!    Cathy
