Topic: American Football versus Rugby Football
OK, so as not to hijack Eva's thread on the European Football (Soccer) Championships, I have started a fresh thread where we can debate the merits of US Football and Rugby. For the start of this discussion please see below link.

I have often had the same thought as gsj re padding and agree wholeheartedly with his sentiments. Have our US cousins actually seen a game of rugby? I suspect not. If you haven't, check out the youtube link to see what we mean. Admittedly, the NFL players are generally bigger (as most things are in the US), but there's plenty of rough and tumble here.

What did the teams wear before all the protective clothing was brought in? Surely they haven't been wearing all that clobber since the game was invented. Mind you, if they didn't wear those helmets I don't suppose they'd use their heads as battering rams.
God help us if Health and Safety force the rugby players in the UK to pad up and wear helmets. Great joke for an April fool's spoof next year - lol
