By the way, jim's previous post is dead on.
"The reality of it all is everyone has a tremendous investment in the tours and the ticket prices have to cover the expenses. It is an expensive world we live in. There is a profit motive too. The profits are not quite the windfall that people think they are." - jim m
Like gas prices? Oh no, not the same analogy at all. Unfortunately, gas is how most people have to get to work and make a living. And it isn't supply and demand that is driving gas prices up. A concert is not a necessity, it is a pleasure.
The cost of a concert ticket is part of the equation when it comes to supply and demand. With Bluesman's help, Eva is going to go to the Eric Clapton concert. That was very kind of Bluesman and I hope she has an incredible time. But wouldn't it be better if she didn't even have to ask the question of whether to go because the ticket price is so high and not even for a good seat? Plus that is the cost for one ticket, what about her friends if they wanted to go?
The Eagles started this mess of high ticket prices. Believe me, they were not worth it. I was lucky enough to to see the bands I loved when concert prices were inexpensive. 2 people could go. I wish it was like that for the kids of today. At least they have Ozzfest, where they get a whole day of bands.
Garth Brooks was an artist at the top of his popularity who rewarded his fans with low ticket prices. I will always appreciate that about him. Because he did that, whole families were able to attend his concerts. And he added all kinds of special effects, he gave you a show that was included in his ticket prices.
It really is up to the individual to see if it is worth it to them. For me it's not. As a whole I see alot better artists and shows for reasonable prices than the higher end prices. As evidenced by Joe Bonamassa. He allows all his fans to get a chance to see him. And see him a number of times. The great thing is we do have choices and I'll tend to chose artists I don't think overcharge me for a ticket.
