Topic: Anyone from the Detroit area?

Just wondering. I think Joe could play some major venues here. Pine knob or Meadowbrook I believe would work well for him.  Hopefully in time. I remember SRV starting out like this. Not many people knew who he was at first and in short time he became a household name. I think Joe has this potential!

I was raised in MI but now live in Philly.  Grew up in Troy then moved to Oxford where I went to high school.

Re: Anyone from the Detroit area?

Joe's already played Pine Knob....(you're "aging" yourself, sozo!  Hasn't it been DTE, or something like that, for some time now?)  I saw Joe there late last summer, opening for BB King.  He only had about 25 minutes, though, and played to a pretty empty pavilion.  Only we cheapos on the lawn were already there, and only some of us were up and screaming and cheering loudly!  Which reminds me, I really think they should let the earlybirds who want to see the opening acts head into the pavilion's front row seats!  They could hold my I.D., my purse, my first-born child...something that I'd want to reclaim once the openers were done and the real ticketholders finally showed up for the main act.

I"m looking forward to the day when Joe IS the main attraction at a venue like Pine Knob!  Of course, the meet and greet line afterward would be hell!  : )

I grew up in Warren, then lived in Rochester Hills before moving to IN.  My friend and I got season tickets to Pine Knob every summer once we were old enough to drive!  Oh, those good ol' days!!

Re: Anyone from the Detroit area?

I live in Macomb Township.
Joe just played the Hayloft in Mt. Clemens in June i believe.
I was at the B.B. King show last summer at D.T.E. also..
I was in the pavilion about 12 rows back & you are correct Donna it was pretty empty, but i knew of Joe opening the show so we got there early.
Also got him to autograph a cd...he took the time to talk with everyone and stayed at the table until everyone was gone !  Thats just typical Joe.

I think the Emerald Theater in Mt. Clemens would be a perfect fit for Joe. I saw Buddy Guy there last year & Jonny Lang is playing there in November !

for an outside venue i think Meadowbrook or Freedom Hill.

zosozep7 (Rob) a little advice from past experience.  Get to the Hayloft around 4-4:30 you've got a good shot at getting in for the sound check.
If the front doors are closed/locked go the the backstage entrance and hang around....you'll get in !
Also  Joe almost always sticks around for autographs, pics, etc.....

Sorry, Rob.  I was just giving you a hard time!  It'll always be Pine Knob to me, too!

So, Joe's playing the Hayloft again in early December?  That's actually more do-able for me than the closer Fort Wayne show on the eve of Christmas Eve.

Rozey, you goofball!  Northville to Mt. Clemens is NOT a "road trip!"  If you don't need snacks or a potty break, you can't call it a "road trip!" : )  Now, Indianapolis to Mt. Clemens....THAT'S more like a road trip, baby, though certainly not the farthest I've traveled for a concert.   Hope to meet you at the 'Loft!

Re: Anyone from the Detroit area?

Hey zosozep7...I live in Lewiston, a bit of a road trip to the Detroit area.  If anyone from down that way is up for a road trip, Joe is playing in Traverse City in Feb of 2007.  This is a very small venue, and it's a Joe show.  Just got my tickets...2nd row center for a mere $25!  I still find it very hard to believe that Joe hasn't gotten more exposure.  He, In my opinion, is the best blues guitarist since SRV.  Well that is just my 2 cents.  I saw Joe in August in Interlochen.  He opened up for BB and didn't have too much time to play, but it was worth every single minute.  Joe hung out after his set, talked with fans and signed autographs for EVERYONE!  He is the most humble artist I have ever met, by far!

Hey ZoZo,
I am from Detroit and thanks for turning me on to Joe.  Looking forward to The Hayloft Show.  Take Care, Coop

Re: Anyone from the Detroit area?

Donna-You obviously haven't traveled on 696 lately.  If snacks and potty breaks define a "road trip" then I was right!  lol  It took me 1 1/2 hours to get from Wixom to Sterling Heights a couple of weeks ago.  At least there shouldn't be any construction in December.

Re: Anyone from the Detroit area?

Who knows, I might just go up there for the show! I am going to see this guitar smoker alot! Tell me, is the show sold out allready? Let me know. Thanks for the info!

Rozey,  I owe you an apology!  And thanks for the warning about 696!  I better add some time to my travel estimate this weekend!  Well, crud!  I hate construction!  And can we really bet on it being completed by December?  Sheesh!
