Re: Sunday Times article about the blues

I love Muse too, they are up there as far as live bands are concerned!! The Wembley gig was an awesome DVD/Album. They are such a tight band, it's not even funny.

Matt Bellamy is very effects driven, but is a great guitarist, and his vocal range.....unbelievable!! They're at the top of my list of bands I need to see (that I haven't already).

Hey John,
I didn't realize how big MUSE was until I saw the opening of the DVD from Wembley Stadium, WOW and very cool cinemantography! The 18 year old did a small pilgrimage of MUSE shows when they were in the states last summer.  And within the last year I read a Gary Moore interview where he stated that seeing a MUSE performance was the reason he chose to go back to the blues (paraphrasing)...as if to say, who could compete with that, he thinks they are amazing.  Some of the family music banter, since we tease each other sometimes, I tell my boys if they like MUSE, I'm surprised they don't like more than 2 Queen songs, or the Who's Tommy or even a little opera...Matt's vocals are incredible, what a vocal range!!! Yep, you're right, music is totally subjective and kissing and making up is even better! smile

Back to the article, Greenose...is that paper considered a tabloid, as in trashy journalism? big_smile

It was a broadsheet but I believe it is set as a tabloid now... but no it isnt considered trashy journalism or atleast when I was at school it was considered a decent paper...

Re the White Stripes, I'd recommend you try their second album De Stilj. It features a few bluesy tracks such as Hello Operator, a cover of Sun House's Death Letter and one of Blind Willie McTell's Your Southern Can

Still prefer the Black Keys though!

Re: Sunday Times article about the blues

Well, I've sent this to Blues Review, The Blues Cruise and to the London Chapter of the Blues Foundation..It still irks me to no end!!! I'm not done yet. And, based on the thread about the English survey showing people that speed are most likely to be listening to the blues?..Come on my friends across the pond, time to do some educating!!!    Cathy

TBH the state of music over here is appalling, though I must say I think im slowly converting some of my friends. Sunday was my first live gig and a few friends came to see / give support etc, well they brought someone who is heavy into dance music and I think we might of got somet through to him, he took a real interest in talking to me about it etc was cool big_smile

I'll second that....I don't even listen to the radio anymore (except Planet Rock sometimes).

As far as the article about people speeding most likely listening to the blues, I think that's utter tripe to be honest. The people speeding are most likely on speed, or listening to the fracking Arctic Monkeys, Razortripe, and other "new bands" that are dominating our airwaves.......or both!

Yes Cathy, educating is neccessary, and I do my bit whenever I can.

Re: Sunday Times article about the blues

This was a poorly researched article which is unusual for the Times. The journo is obviously too narrow minded and short of reference material to be taken seriously. It does prove one thing though, even bad journalism promotes good discussion.
