Best known for the FM radio hit "Children Of The Sun", much less known outside of his native Australia is the fact that the late Billy Thorpe began his career as one of the leading proponents of Aussie blues rock way back in the early '60's with Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs, who were very Stones like, and scored some massive hits in their native land. Later on they got progressively heavier, with long, extended blues guitar solos. Here's a rare treat, a live , hard rockin' performance of "Mama" from the Australian GTK show in the early 70's :

Actually - about an hour ago I got to hear little bit of it LIVE, as Roger Waters is the headliner today at 'Coachella', a 3-day music festival, which is happening about a mile from my house. I didn't have tickets, but, after thinking about this song, most of the day, I got a call tonight from a panicked friend whose teenage daughter needed to be picked up from there - right away. So, as I'm sitting in my car watching 1000's of kids wander around.....(50,000+ in attendance), what song do you think I began to hear in the distance? Yep. This one. 'Twas meant to be. My little gift. Very nice - that is, until the previously quiet road I was on was suddenly filled with about 200 cars that were heading out a couple of hours early - all with their windows down - each playing SOMETHING different - and so poor Roger Waters was drowned out.......alas.....I knew though, that I could come home and fire this up again - so I did.
