yes but the thing about it is in this business, once you hit 35 or 36 years of age...if you havent made it by then by industry standards you are considered over the hill and might as well be put out to pasture. when's the last time you read about an act that was over the age of 36 (who hasn't previously sold a huge unit of records) going single or double platinum? it doesn't happen because the music business nowadays is a youthful market...you said so yourself by saying that a 16-yr-old girl is sellable...and unfortunately thats how the business has changed....and at the same time, being appealing isn't the same as being sellable. so as for it taking time, it's true...but there's not alot of time to be had.

this will be my last post on this matter because all it is doing is making me frustrated and i have a gig tonight that i'd like to make a pleasant experience...

i dont like crosby...period. i dont care if people agree with me or not...i'm not a fan. I'm a fan of Joe's and support what he does...but not this. is that such a big deal?

We can go round and round on this but I think it comes down to McDonald's hamburgers versus Filet Mignon.  Mickey D's sells more but would you say it is better?  If all you care about is who moves the most units you care more about the business than the music.  If that's your choice, good for you.  But you've lost my interest.  If someone can do it the right way like Joe without sacrificing his musical vision for focus groups and lowest-common-denominator marketing then that means something to me.  Gourmand vs. Gourmet.  Britney Spears versus Joe.  If Joe wanted to tart himself up and sell his soul to the highest bidder he could.  It's those "artists" who aim to be the flavor of the month whose careers are over by 35.  Remember, Joe's model is BB and Buddy, not Quiet Riot or Cinderella.

by the way...i may actually be the one weird person here who likes mcdonalds hamburgers over fillet mignon...

James Blunt was 30 when "You're Beautiful" came out. Jeff Tweedy was 29 when Wilco came out with their first successful album, Being There, and they have gotten bigger the older they have gotten. Joe's 30. There's plenty of time, especially considering the fact that he is generally looked at as being younger than he actually is. Considering where Joe has gone popularity-wise from age 25 to age 30, just think what he can do between the ages of 30 and 35.

And the point regarding Fogerty and those other guys is that IF YOU BUILD THE AUDIENCE, it doesn't matter. Joe does his one show at a time. Those guys had hit records. But let's consider: you hadn't heard jack crap outta Bob Seger in 10+ years before Face The Promise came out. It did well. He had been thought of as a has-been, a worse fate than Joe Bonamassa being 30. He sold very well. You build the audience, no matter how it happens, there reaches a point where it just explodes. Look at Los Lonely Boys. Yes, they're young, but the music they play isn't. They had a huge success. Age is nothing. It takes the right song at the right time to hit the right audience. Los Lonely Boys didn't sell with the kiddies. No, they sold with the 40 and over crowd because they reminded folks of what used to be on the charts. They sold with the people who want to find the next guitar god. They sold with the people who loved Santana. That's their crowd, not the teenyboppers or the audience of MTV or VH1.

Considering that Joe is doing this with his own record label, without the push of a major record label, is a big deal. The reason why he has a great chance is because the following he is building is a devoted one. It's not one where they hear a song on the radio and go, "Oh that guy is good" and maybe go buy an album. A lot of Joe's fans are invested emotionally in this guy's career. They genuinely want to see him do well.

That beats anything a record company can do.

The kid of hers is scarry.
