Re: Lower Drinking Age to 18?
Your parents don't necessarily have to be bad people, they can be what may be considered social drinkers, but if you live in Ca. as I do, 2 beers will get your butt thrown in jail and that constitutes one of the criteria of alcoholism. You may live in an environment where drinking beyond that limit seems the norm, but then you are probably in denial about your drinking situation. People have long accepted consumation of alcohol as a social norm, but it's a vice not unlike drugs and other compulsions. I'm not pointing fingers, I'm just stating facts. Just because its legal doesn't mean its a good thing. Deezer, I'm not raggin' on you personally it's just info we all need to process, I dig all of my forum buds and I don't want to see any of you fall prey to any vices. If I was to point fingers the first place I would point is at myself, nuff said???????

Did you miss the part where I said I've never had a drink in my life? And did you miss the part where in my life my parents have never been drunk, not once? Being around people like that shows you responsibility while drinking. My dad comes home and has three light beers with his supper after busting his butt getting up at 4:30 in the morning. My mom has 2 glasses of wine. Anytime they drink the hard stuff (which is rare, maybe once every couple of months), they sip shots, they don't down them. They've always preached moderation, if you're going to drink, moderation. That's what these kids out there getting just freakin' hammered have not had, I believe. It's either been the forbidden fruit, or their parents have shown a bad example. As a resident assistant, if I could only tell you how many times I've seen the kid with the very strict Christian upbringing (nothing against Christians - I'm one myself) who got to college and just ran wild. I can use my friends as an example. One of them had a very strict upbringing, his parents wouldn't let me come pick him up one day because we were going to a football game in town, my dad had to. Got to college and just went crazy. My other friend, who had much the same upbringing I had, got to college, had his fun and went to parties, got tipsy a couple of times, but that's it.
And anything can be turned into a vice. Even guitars. We could turn food in a vice. In America, it basically is. we're fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter. I myself would love to lose about 30 pounds, not because I wanna be ripped, but because I just want my belly to jiggle when I brush my teeth.
As far as California, well, living there is just your fault.
