I'm not laughing at all. Their stuff was mostly covers though, so I guess technically Joe wouldn't be covering 3 Dog Night...but they made some great music. Can you imagine Joe's interpretation of "Try a little tenderness" ??? Yowza!
Any Pink Floyd tune.
All Along the Watchtower-Hendrix
Whipping Post by the Allman Bros. Band (an extra treat would be if Joe and Derek Trucks teamed up to tackle that one. Talk about masters at work!)
Outside Woman Blues-Cream
Goin' Down-Freddie King
If he were to do a SRV song, I'd vote for Tightrope/Crossfire or even Hendrix/Vaughan's Voodoo Chile (Slight Return). But every young blues guitarist these days seems to get compared to SRV and I don't think it is fair at all. To them or to Stevie. I think doing an SRV song would only further cement that comparison in people's minds, and I don't really want to see that, so I'd understand if he didn't want to do one of those. I wouldn't blame him.
Whoa. I've never seen that video before. Brian Robertson may have been principle in the most celebrated era of Thin Lizzy, but Gary Moore was the best guitarist they ever had - by far. That was great. Imagine what he could have done with 6 strings on that song!
I just thought of one going through some of my older English blues albums:
Walking the Road by Peter Green off of the Blues by Green album.
Morbid Angel - Maze of Torment

can you imagen Joe act like this ???......
just kidding ......
"Bow to me faithfully.....bow to me splendidly...." ahhhooowwww......
Flash-back to Beavis and Butthead and when I was 13!
Richie Sambora -- Ballad of Youth
Might be a cool song once JB finished making it his own.

BluesMan wrote:Willie Dixon's "Ain't Superstitious" made popular again by Rod Stewart/Jeff Beck. Now that would be a sweet one! Lot's of Wah, Wah on that.
Roy
That version f'n smokes! Everything is great - guitar, bass, drums and singing.
I like Peter Frampton's version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", but I would love to hear what Joe could do with it. Also would love to hear "Sweet Home Chicago" by Foghat.
Take Care

well, maybe Roy is onto something. this thread is a mixture of desires and a mixture of reasons for wanting Joe to cover certain things. its a place for just what youpersonally want to hear him play but also to try to come up with something that fits the obscure definition which also is blues that rocks, in most cases.
sometimes we add the, hey this could be a huge hit or breakthru cover too. they all are valid.
sometimes i gloss over suggestions of non obscure tunes but you never know, Joe doing Superstition might not be obscure but maybe what the doctor order but in any case a cool tune for a special jam.Phil's suggestion has been eating at me though. he's one who's picked the winner before. a second hit could mean he is lucky, he has a sixth sense or esp, or maybe he has inside info.
at fisrt when i saw the Sambora suggestion, i thought, you gotta be kidding me, after all that time spent putting Bonamassa cds in front of Bon Jovi, all the will power it took for me to not put the have a nice day cover as my avatar for fear of 'I'm not sure' but somethign told me it wasn't a good idea...
anyway the video linked is truly better with my eyes closed, i am suprised at how i think it could work for alot of ways, its bluesy and rock, about youth, and like Phil said Joe could make it his own and do killer things with it. i'm not voting for it but if it happens i'm going to have Phil pick some lucky numbers for me. anyway good suggestionsand because i haven't said it in a while, I'd like to hear Joe do Green Manalishi, private concert, one time thing, or a recording/single
oh and since it hasn't been said on this page, everyone agrees Joe originals are the best but since he does do covers we like to come up with requests/suggestions for fun if nothing else, never meant as disrespect
Just so you know, got no inside info on that one at all. I "re" heard that song and it got me to thinking about this thread, so I threw it up just to see what the reaction would be, if any.
And yes, you are correct.....Joe originals are the cat's pajamas. Although we do love it when he sticks at least a few notes of other artists stuff in his songs for live performance.
I Know Why the Sun Don't Shine by The Rumbledown Band (aka Paul Kossoff/Frankie Miller/Andy Fraser).

ugh - cmon! why don't you just say "Little Wing" or Pearl Jam! I can admit the recommendations I had would never happen.
Let's come up with some obscure songs that could prove useful! Some B-sides from (possibly) good artists that everyone doesn't know of already...or may have been popular for a short amount of time but then forgotten.
and don't say Faith by George Michael!
lol
