We had a Godfather marathon starting on Friday night, watched 1 a day. Godfather II and III, I had only watched from beginning to end, maybe once before. My son recently read the book, which is mainly Godfather I and thru conversation we all realized we had some of the names and people confused. Some details from the book are left out in the movie, like Johnny Fontaine, who I think made most people think of a Frank Sinatra type. Its definitely a movie that seems every time I watch it, I pick up some other little detail, like the statue of liberty off in the distance when someone is being shot & dumped, etc. I think I'd forgotten how good Al Pacino was, just how coldstone hearted he becomes and that piercing stare!! He was so powerful in total silence!
My son had been reading things on the internet about Heath Ledger, so I'm not positive this is true, but Heath was considered by some to be the next Marlon Brando...Apparently, Heath secluded himself for a month to get into character for the Joker, similar to how Brando once did. It could have been a combination of bummer things that were going on in his life, but it seems Heath became very disturbed emotionally during the Joker role.
I always remember our first Joe concert and when Marlon Brando died in 2004, since we saw Joe on the Friday night going into 4th of July weekend, Brando had just passed away. Joe played the theme to the Godfather, it was an unexpected surprise. I heard Brando's son passed away this weekend, he died of pneumonia, he is the one that shot his stepsister's boyfriend..yikes...there seemed to be alot of sadness in their family.
Anyway, like my brother always said about gangsters...live by the gun, die by the gun...
Stu, does your wife like Richard Gere?...he is one man that wears his grey hair very well!
