Topic: Chicago House of Blues

The Chicago show was killer. I've only recently discovered Joe's music and I've hurried to get all of his CDs. I noticed that Joe stuck mostly to the last few albums (Sloe Gin, You and Me, Blues Deluxe, a few covers). Has Joe moved on from playing songs from his first two records?

His inclusion of an extended version of ZZ Top's Just Got Paid was the highlight of the night, in my opinion.

Re: Chicago House of Blues

Hi Joe and thanks for signing into the forum...Joe's set lists don't tend to vary much during a tour..That said. We'll have to wait and see what our European friends report. (Actually Cali dates first). There is a "live" CD in the works from the '07 dates..and..hoping for a DVD. If there's any other Joe out there, this forum is the place to find them. Glad you found your way to Joe and to the forum......       Cathy

Well, he did play Walk in My Shadow. However, you're right in noticing that there's a bunch more recent stuff on the setlist.

Welcome Joe !  I agree, Just Got Paid was the highlight for me too - Joe's sets are
pretty much the same for any given tour - Green Bay and Wausau were killer shows
also.  I miss the old stuff tho....

mountain time was also played and that is from so its like that.  the only album and i could be wrong here the show featured no songs from was had to cry today, which is a middle album.  personally i like the older setlists better than his more recent ones, but liked the new one well enough to see it played three times, so i can't say i'm disappointed.

Re: Chicago House of Blues

My only regret is that I have seen Joe 3 times, and have yet to see him play any of his slide songs.  Burning Hell would have been nice . . .

This was the first JB show I attended where that he did not come out afterwards to meet the fans and sign stuff.  I know that with his increasing popularity - it was inevitable to happen sooner than later.  But it has been part of the live JB experience in the past you wish it would never end.

When we saw Joe last February at the HOB in Cleveland, it was packed and Joe stayed until he talked to every fan that wanted to.  The HOB staff was pretty put out by it after about 45 minutes, but Joe persevered.  I had brought both of my teenage children to the show, and Joe was so delighted to see youngsters like them, that he talked to them for about 5 minutes.  What a genuine guy he is with the fans.

my only regret is that i have seen him 4 times and the setlist has been virtually identical every single time.

Re: Chicago House of Blues

Yeah I wish he'd mix it up sometimes. Youd think everyonce in a while he'd want to change it up dramatically for his own entertainment, but I guess perhaps just sticking the same is more comforting.

I second that! Great song (Ain't Superstitious). Here it is:

He also began "Just Got Paid" with the very begginning of the old Willie Dixon song "Ain't Superstitious" which Rod Stewart/Jeff Beck made popular. That really got the crowd excited to hear just the beginning.

He did this intro in Chicago too.

Re: Chicago House of Blues

yeah man when i say virtually the same i mean a song or two is different.  im not going to tell him how to do his job, but a one or two song difference does not equal a different setlist or changing things up to me.
