Topic: Cross roads 2007

Well what a weekend.  Brother Bob was in Florida over the weekend, so we got together.  We played blues & we jazzed it up.  Bob had rearranged "Route 66" with some very cool tritone substitution chords and he showed them to me.  It wasn't the same old boring tune once we got throught with it.  I showed him my new bass and then a tune I had composed (a minor key blues with a couple of half step turn arounds) that was raw and nasty to begin with.  Now UH OH!

We listened to the two latest Joe CDs and Bob was impressed saying, "He's got some licks...real good tricks," and compared him somewhat to Gary Moore.  I noted that Gary was a British rocker with Blues influences,  BUT JOE was an American bluesman with British rock influences.  Bro agreed & said that Joe was a way more believable player, that he was AUTHENTIC.  High praise, indeed from a coupla old grumps.

And he bought me a DVD for Christmas...just got it Saturday.  hmmph.

Crossroads 2007 is a powerful consortium of guitarists and plenty of other musicians.  If you don't have it, get it or rent it.  There is some real blues on it and enough other stuff to show how gracious EC really is.

Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi...OMG...all you guitarists have several reasons to hate Derek.  Susan more than holds her own.  She can belt and she can PLAY!  luv her soul.

Jeff Beck was astonishing as usual and had somebodys granddaughter PLAYING BASS...I'm in love AGAIN.  sorry Jane dear.  She had the stage.

BB King showed once again why he's the king of the blues and in addition praised Eric Clapton.  I believed him.  Ms.Tia was listening from the next room and said, "Now that's love."  I almost lost it.

AND Buddy Guy is, to quote Eric, "...the baddest guitar player on the planet."  I needed a nap after all that over stimulation.

If you don't have it, get it or rent it.

I have spoken lol

Re: Cross roads 2007

Sorry the DVD isn't the entire show because it was non-stop, jaw dropping performances. There was a respectful number of us Bonamaniacs who went....You can see some of them in the DVD. Joe WAS invited, but it was the same time as the North Sea Fest..source of the many stellar videos. I have a feeling if it happens again, he'll be there...Cathy

Re: Cross roads 2007

I agree Joe was conspicous by his absence.  didn't say it in my original post.  was thinking it.

Re: Cross roads 2007

Hey Jeff,
Some of our forum friends recently convinced me to buy this dvd.  You're right.  I was not disappointed. We talked about it a little bit in another thread.    I've probably played that DVD 6 or 7 times now. Did you know Derek & Susan played the HOB Orlando on Dec. 29?  Ken and I were there and it was a fantastic show.

Re: Cross roads 2007

Susan I did not know.  I just read that otrher thread all the way through.  Big big Fun.  I know you two had a blast. Is HOB a better venue than HardRockCafe?

Crossroads:  That Beck Bassist is a 21 year old Australian chick named Tal Wilkenfeld.  She is smoking good.  Obviously I was enamored because I searched the 'net till I found her.

There is so much more than what I mentioned on the DVD.  I'm glad you got it.

Maybe Tia and I can hook up with you guys if I'm in town when Bryan Lee comes.  There's somebody in Stuart? I think.

Re: Cross roads 2007

I was there as well.

As far as obvious in the absence, its not like these are secret concerts.  If he wanted to, he could play.  He is a big boy, represented by the biggest agency in the world, he could play if he wanted.

Tal Wilkenfeld.  Yeah, we looked her up too. As far a venues go, I think the sound is probably better at the Hard Rock, but I still like the venue at the HOB. You were lucky to have backstage passes at the Hard Rock because everyone else was pretty much kicked out the door the minute the show was over.  Although the HOB also has rules, they treat you like an appreciated patron.  Anyway, just my 2 cents.   We're gonna be in New Orleans in March.  Not sure when, but we're hoping to be around Orlando for the Bryan Lee show.  And yeah, it would be cool to hook up.

Susan cool

He was asked and wanted to but it would of meant canceling some European dates that were already booked.

It's a shame that on the DVD they only have part of their setlist.  But one can only put so much on two DVDs.

Music is good for the Soul...

Derek Trucks continues to blow me away every time I see or hear him.  I just got one of his DVD's and it just about put me into a coma of bliss due to how awesome it was.

The best part is there is a brief moment where they show Clapton singing the song as a spectator. You know that's gotta be cool when the guy who originally wrote and performed the song is singing it back to you while you're singing it. Pretty freakin' cool.
