Topic: Cross roads 2007
Well what a weekend. Brother Bob was in Florida over the weekend, so we got together. We played blues & we jazzed it up. Bob had rearranged "Route 66" with some very cool tritone substitution chords and he showed them to me. It wasn't the same old boring tune once we got throught with it. I showed him my new bass and then a tune I had composed (a minor key blues with a couple of half step turn arounds) that was raw and nasty to begin with. Now UH OH!
We listened to the two latest Joe CDs and Bob was impressed saying, "He's got some licks...real good tricks," and compared him somewhat to Gary Moore. I noted that Gary was a British rocker with Blues influences, BUT JOE was an American bluesman with British rock influences. Bro agreed & said that Joe was a way more believable player, that he was AUTHENTIC. High praise, indeed from a coupla old grumps.
And he bought me a DVD for Christmas...just got it Saturday. hmmph.
Crossroads 2007 is a powerful consortium of guitarists and plenty of other musicians. If you don't have it, get it or rent it. There is some real blues on it and enough other stuff to show how gracious EC really is.
Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi...OMG...all you guitarists have several reasons to hate Derek. Susan more than holds her own. She can belt and she can PLAY! luv her soul.
Jeff Beck was astonishing as usual and had somebodys granddaughter PLAYING BASS...I'm in love AGAIN. sorry Jane dear. She had the stage.
BB King showed once again why he's the king of the blues and in addition praised Eric Clapton. I believed him. Ms.Tia was listening from the next room and said, "Now that's love." I almost lost it.
AND Buddy Guy is, to quote Eric, "...the baddest guitar player on the planet." I needed a nap after all that over stimulation.
If you don't have it, get it or rent it.
I have spoken
