I was fortunate enough to make the trip to LA for the actual performance. Must admit the whole LA/Hollywood/Bowl scene was much better than I expected it to be. The facility, like Red Rocks is very large and somewhat steep. I was about 100 feet from the front of the stage and loved every minute of the experience. The weather was LA perfect, the lighting and sound was exceptional.
I bought both the dvd and the CD. After watching the DVD I realized how much work went into capturing both the visual of the performance but the amazing detail of the sound. When you see Reese hit a key, or Calvin play a note or Lamar pound a drum, you can hear it of the sound track. The addition of the LA Philharmonic was daring and difficult. But to hear French horns, prolific string arrangements, woodwind playing and complimentary percussion adds so much to the body of work presented.
I especially liked all the amazing camera angles the dvd presented. You could clearly see the open anxiety on Joe's face as the performance began and then see him relax and smile at Josh and Calvin as they soon realized "this is really cool!".
A classic Caveman production, a jewel-like performance, Bonamassa history grows.
