Inkubus Sukkubus - Tales of Witchcraft & Wonder (2020)
Oh yes; I’ve got my Pagan Rock hat on again, in good time for Samhain…Well, actually with this release it’s more a Pagan Folk hat, enough to make Seth Lakeman run for the eye-liner… Then again, this isn’t so much a new release as a “best of” compilation.
Anyone who’s dipped into my scribings in recent years will know I have a soft spot for The Inkies, and especially the past 3 years when n they’ve produced 3 more acoustic albums, flavoured by folklore and myths of their native Gloucestershire. This release cherry-picks 13 tracks from those albums and accompanies a slim tome of the tales behind the songs. Tales of ancient folklore, ghosts, unrequited love and even a couple of gruesome unsolved murders that wouldn’t be out of place in Midsomer. Oh, and a gorilla..(the Uley Gorilla).
I have followed these guys for most of their 30 years, and have to say, this more folksie turn in their style is a great fit; compelling storytellers; dark but with a twist of humour… and sex; can't not forget the sex.
When life gives you lemons; don't make lemonade.
Give back the lemons. Why were the lemons free? What's wrong with the lemons?
Do Not trust the lemons...
