Sari Schorr - Live In Europe (2020)

Cracking live album of Sari and the re-worked Engine Room led by Matt Beable on Bass with Ash Wilson on Guitar, Bob Fridzema on Keys and Ray Martin on drums. Recorded Rapperweil (Switzerland), Elizabeth Hall, Bristol and Water Rats, London last June, this is a powerhouse showcase for Sari that makes local statuary duck.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

showing my age, I bought the original Tony Joe White 45RPM single when it came out, not sure on that year and can't remember the B side tune. For sure, hydromorphone and deep fried PB / Banana sammies with mayo. It just doesn't get much better than this

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Robben was about 10 years older here than when I saw him tour with Joni Mitchell, and yet he still looks like a baby. Of course he would go on to play with Miles Davis for a while. So for people I saw in concert at least two times he definitely has the widest gap at some 46 years. I just saw him at UAB Alyss Stephens this past January .............. video here is crap but the audio is really good, enjoy. Oh and with Roscoe, Vinny C and Russ this qualifies as a 4 piece supergroup

Lynne Jackaman - One Shot (2020)

Three years in the making for former Saint Jude front-woman Lynne; what is it they say, "if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all"? Well, the wait, worry and hard-work has been worth it as this entire album gives me goosebumps on goosebumps…

Western Sand - Live At The Joiners EP (2018)
                  Welcome To The Badlands (2019)

Well, if you’re going to treat yourself to a slice of these West-Country rockers, you’ll find 1 just isn’t enough. Live At The Joiners sees Tyler, Jimmy, Nathan & Findlay doing what they do best, laying down some loud, dirty, Southern styled guitar rock at Southampton’s noted venue. Only 5 tracks, balanced from the band’s previous 2 EPs as well as a storming cover of Mountain’s Mississippi Queen, but WOW, do these boys give it their all… It’s taken me a couple of years to actually get hold of this, but it’s been worth the wait.

Welcome To The Badlands is their debut album and is more-or-less a combination of their previous EPs, which is good as their eponymous debut is harder to find than rocking horse poop. However, it’s not a mere re-tread even though the material is tried and tested, there are a fistful of very strong newer numbers that prove when these guys get the itch, they’re gonna scratch, hard.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Following on from last post:-
Steve Stevens - Flamenco A-Go-Go  (1999)

Okay, the name’s there, but can’t quite place it? Well, long time and indispensable sideman for Billy Idol, and he who provided the soaring theme for Top Gun (which I’ve personally, never yet seen…). So, like Ritchie Kotzen, he’s got pedigree; however, this instrumental album is a bit of a departure from the screaming and howling guitars you’d exxpect.
Sort of following a cue from Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Stevens has gone all (mostly) acoustic; but instead of grabbing a lute and donning tights, the clue here is in the title, all flamenco guitars and tight, Spanish bums. well not quite true, there are several Flamenco based numbers with a touch of the Julian Breams, but the net is cast to include some Turkish (delight) flavoured themes as well as a couple of tracks with heavily Moorish (North African) themes. Nearly 2 decades before this album, John Williams & Kevin Peek in their Sky personas did a number called Sahara, and more than a couple musical phrases are shared here. That said, the Balkans seem to have been bypassed - not a balalaika in earshot.
Not a bad album by any stretch, especially if you’re looking for something a little different; certainly deserves the dust blowing off a bit more often.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Will Wilde - Bring It On Home (2018)
Don’t often hear from Will, which is a shame: Thor of the Harmonica. So what we have here then is essentially a covers album, with a twist. There’s the obligatory forelock tug to the masters, in the form of Willie Dixon’s Bring It On Home, but Will (with sideman/producer Danny Giles) couldn’t resist cutting in the Led Zepp treatment midway through the Sonny Boy Willliamson.
That’s sort of the mark of the album, given his age, Will has gone from tracks more from his dad’s album collection than his granddad’s, and with a rockier twist. We have, Rory Gallagher, Deep Purple; John Mayall, .Jethro Tull;  Fleetwood Mac; Cream; Black Sabbath, The Beatles; Free; & Gary Moore. However, as you may expect, some work better than others. The guitar of Lazy is too leaden, while not leaden enough on The Wizard.. However, though it’s will’s album, not Danny’s can’t get away from the fact that Danny does sterling work elsewhere on the album and really lets rip on a key track, Yer Blues.. Wagging the finger a little more, Will isn’t as gifted on the vocals as he is on the blues harp, but despite expectations, owns My Brother Jake and another key track, Bad Penny.. The majority of the album is solid with only one track, for me,  not working despite astounding sustain on the harmonica, and that’s Parisienne Walkways.
Excellent back for Will on the album, Danny Giles as mentioned on guitar, Victoria Smith on bass & Man taylor on drums. Also have to say, great guest appearance on 3 tracks from another “old blues head on young shoulders” Greg Coulson with some keyboard moments.

Eric covering a famous Eddie Hazel instrumental from the Funkadelic days, with a house band no less, yikes !

OK so it's not a house band but they refused to show the other guitarist playing lead, that pisses me off. That is not Eric playing lead at the end
