This album is not music but poetry. It is not for everyone. People with perfect lives, looks and careers will not get her, but for people who are anything but - she is a calming listen and embrace:  - "I am with you"... she whispers... Thank you sister.

Mapache - Liberty Street
Something new, thanks to brother Curby, this has been regularly in the CD spinner and scratching a good itch. Mapache are an American duo, Sam Blasucci & Clay Finch who deliver a potent mix of Mexican boleros, Hawaiian surf and lonesome cowboy campfire tunes with an easy charm and engaging chemistry, the equal of Bros Landreth. This is really making my folicles fidget.

Beau Bowen - The Great Anticlimax
So after waiting 10 days between ordering and the disc flying through the letterbox, the first impression is the title of this album is so wrong, not an anticlimax at all - it's a speaker blower of an album.

Looking like a hybrid of T.Rex and Mott The Hoople, in the tallest platforms I've seen this side of 1974 (excluding Kiss) the artist formerly known as Kaleb McKane has re-invented himself as a Space/Glam refugee and has fused a gritty edge to Be Bop Deluxe to form a new style of Space rock - as orchestral as Uli Roth but not as twiddly as Yngwie Malmsteen; the sort of album Mick Ronson never had time to complete.

Chris King Robinson - She's Got 9 Lives (2018)

One of those albums I've been promising myself since it came out and in these days when artists need a little support, I thought the time was right. The big push though came when I found a message from Chris in the depths of my Facebook from a couple of years ago, looking to crowdfund his debut album - quick tip, if you approach me on my blind side, you'll find it's also my deaf one.

Anyway, I've known of Chris for several years now, the first picture I saw of him I thought it was David Tennant jumping on the celebrity blues band wagon. However, the young guy is worth checking out, as is this debut platter,  a mix of a couple of originals and several "live" standards. In an ever more populated pool of emerging young talent, Chris has a more loose jazz style that makes the standards like Crossroads and Dimples fresher. Vocally, not a big voice, somewhere between Ben Poole and John Mayer, but expressive.

Jeremiah Johnson - Heavens To Betsy  (2020)

What can you say? An opening one-two that hits like the worst weather forecast on a spring day (White Lightning & Tornado) And then balances the power out with ballads like Long Way Home & Ecstasy and the country flavoured Leo Stone and then leaves with the jumpin' Preacher's Daughter.

This is a benchmark setting album; it's not out to change the world or re-invent the wheel, but everything Jeremiah and band do on this album is done to perfection; it's crisp, tight, powerful, catchy: just so good. Teat yourselves; and the neighbours.
