Couple of threads this could go in....
Chrissie Hynde - Valve Bone Woe.
Chrissie is doing a little genre-hopping in her "maturing years", but don't worry, it's not a permanent thing. Here she's taking on a mixed bunch of jazz standards, old and new and surrounding The Pretenders with a hand picked jazz ensemble. It works very, very well; Chrissie reins in her full vocal power but the smoky, husky tones of her voice fits the oeuvre like a glove; such a change hearing Wild Is The Wind as it should be... Not that it's all Chrissie's album, the Valve Bone Ensamble get to stretch out, especially on Charlie Mingus.
I'd be the last to admit that Jazz is my "thing", but then 30 odd years ago I'd have said the same about Blues, but if you want to dip your toes in the water, what a way to start.
Chantel McGregor - Bury’D Alive (2019)
Recorded back in April, this is an “On-the-night, as-it-happened” Live show from Chantel, ably backed by Thom and Colin with no-overdubs or inserts, the tapes produced & mastered by yer man Wayne Proctor. On first play through, have to admit, I thought some joker had swapped discs for a Halestorm album. I know I went to a show a short while ago,but when did our Chantel become this heavy? Oh, but it’s good heavy.
Live albums are generally a statement of where a band is when they hit a crest, so it’s going to be interesting to see where she’s going from here, but strap in for an interesting ride.
Friday night music, baby making music....Amos Lee is just plain incredible
