After Monday night's experience, had to pick  up a couple of Mike Farris' albums; the deservedly award winning Gospel Shine For All The People and the Soul flavoured Silver & Stone.

Two different sounds, one very gifted artist....

Paul Rose - Magic City:
I'm not sure exactly how old this CD is, Amazon reckons 2002 but I suspect it's a bit older. If you don't know of Paul Rose, then he's from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, mid-50s, and the best accolade would be "guitarist's guitarist". Starting with an award from non-other than Rory Gallagher, Rose has Guitar Magazine - Guitarist of The Year. Not a guy to really head a major band, but there's an impressive list of who he's played, produced and sessioned for. Actually, Paul is just happy to pop up anywhere locally and just make you jaw drop at how nonchalantly he can spellbind a room with 6 strings.

Anyway, the album; 45  minute instrumental, varied styles, from Satriani type rockers to more delicate pieces like the cover of I Only Have Eyes For You and a re-working of My Favourite Things which makes Mary Poppins sound like she was scored by Dave Brubeck. There's also a beefed-up Walk Don't Run which segues for a while into Still I'm Sad.

Not an album to set your ear-hair alight, but oozes class and a worthy dig round the bargain-end of Amazon...

Don't know if these will scratch that itch, Reo…

I've been digging in the bottom ends of the Other Bands page of the forum I moderate (curate might be a better term) and came across a reference to a Devon band, The Morris brothers featuring a hot, young guitar-slinger, Jaz Morris, but I couldn't find much more (from back in 2010). However, they've slogged on, shed their Blues skin and after a couple of name changes, via Rude Tiger became Firekind.

To date, there's one album, What I Have Found Is Already Lost from 2015and badly needs a follow-up in my opinion; being from the same area as Kris Barras, they show he's not the only big noise from Torbay... See what you think:-
