It is so interesting how some of your parents music sticks with you forever ( no matter if you like it or not ) . This what I listened to on many Saturday evenings.... sigh) Great voice though. And lyrics are not bad either...

R.H.R. - Mahogany Drift

R.H.R. is a "collective" between Troy Redfern, Jack J Hutchinson & Mike Ross, much in the mould of the original Royal Southern Brotherhood; just as good, except with a British twist. This is their debut album, three tracks penned by each, and each bringing their own toys into the other's sandbox.

I'll say more shortly on their own thread as I was at their kick-off gig at Hartlepool on Saturday but wanted to get the ball rolling here as I know more people tend to look in on this thread. I sincerely believe RHR are going to be BIG next year.

Mike Ross - Jenny’s Place

If you haven’t guessed, Mike Ross is the 3rd part of RHR, so seemed only fair that since I have the albums of the other two scallywags, that I check out Mike’s wares. Wouldn’t you know it, he’s originally from the Durham area, but relocated down south somewhere. Jenny’s Place is his most recent album, released this Spring, and builds on his return album, Spindrift.          .

First thing about this album, it’s two-in-one; 9 new studio tracks and 6 “live” tracks with his band at The Latest in Brighton a couple of years back. This newer album boasts a full and muscular set of tracks. The textures found here are thick and sinewy, from the highway rolling ‘Dakota Red’ and the agonized blues of ‘Dark Powder’ to the Petty-esque choruses and melodic structure of ‘Jenny (Sun Goes Down)’ and the swagger of ‘The Big Picture’ or ‘Baby, I Love You’.

The live tracks, obviously mostly from Spindrift give a hint at the sort of heart-wrenchin’  road distilled performances Ross has become noted for; a joy to listen to but my advice would be to play both parts of the album separately since they don’t balance each other.
