Stoney Broke - If It Ain’t Broke E.P. (2016)
Debut E.P. from a young Scots singer/songwriter, Stoney Broke (aka Jake Scott) found its way to me this week. Despite Jake being round the doors a lot this year, doing some tasty support slots, we’ve not been able to be in the same place at the same time. However, this 5-track, vinyl effect platter makes up for it.
Castles; Love Song; Nothing But The Truth; Southern Cross To Glasgow Central & Champagne, Light & Whisky; each are well crafted, tight stories. At times, you do feel like some of the backing could be fleshed out a little, but then there’s probably more to the nom de plume than just a snappy stage-name….? However, the guitar work is sound and the lad has a strong, clear voice and well worth listening to. I understand that there’s a possible album on the way, certainly I’m told there’s new material in recent sets, so worth making a note of for future reference.
If Duncan (Greenose) were to revive the Jock’s Juke Joint compilations, this lad deserves inclusion.
When life gives you lemons; don't make lemonade.
Give back the lemons. Why were the lemons free? What's wrong with the lemons?
Do Not trust the lemons...
