Re: What song are you listening to right now?

James Walbourne - The Hill

This has been a begger to get hold of since it’s release back around 2010 or so. James Walbourne, who he you ask? Well in recent years the day job has been as lead guitar with The Pretenders, The Pogues and many others. More recently though, he’s been working & performing along side his wife Camy Thompson as The Rails.

This album though, (named for Muswell Hill) is a great showcase for James’ guitar style, best described as “an unearthly cross between James Burton, Peter Green, and Richard Thompson,” and went on to add “Walbourne’s fluid, tasteful, beautiful solos drop the jaw, stop the heart, and smack the gob, all at the same time.”  by author Nick Hornby, and who am I to argue….. Never flashy, but totally authorative; well worth the effort to dig it out.

Been listening to some good old Supertramp live from the album "It was the best of times" featuring a well known wind player. Brilliant album if you can find it! big_smile

Rocket its pretty obvious she was listening to Joe Bonamassa, her favorite.
He's my favorite musician as well. I am listening to the song Mountain Climbing !...
hadn't heard the album in a while...great to hear after a few months....I think its my favorite album of Joe's, and the best one too...probably big_smile

Yes, Jane, it is obvious and I was in the awareness zone for whom she reefers to.  The question is directed to what song she was listening to.  wink

I am always interested in songs being listened to by others.  big_smile  I may not agree with personals tastes...but still interested.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

All Them Witches - Sleeping Through The War

Where on Earth do you start with this one? Definitely not a Blues album, though Internet has it’s rootsy moments and Don’t Bring Me Coffee should be/ could be… psychedelta blues? Kicking off with Bulls, this is the best album Hawkwind have never made since Levitation.. It’s freaky, existential, esoteric, expressionistic, improvisational (though from the blurb, the band’s first time they went to a studio with music written…?). Very much in the vein of Mogwai; reminds me of an old Chruch album; B*****d Universe, except this needs to be played loud, very LOUD.

Special edition comes with a 2nd disc, with alternate takes on Internet, 3-5-7; Alabaster & Bruce Lee, and with extra tracks Cowboy Kirk & Punk Jam. Hard to call it between the 2 discs, they’re both brutal, hypnotic, seductive, addictive.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Formed in the summer of 2013. Austin Gold are David James Smith (Lead Guitar + Vocals), Jack Cable (Guitars), Chris Ogden (Drums), Russell Hill (Keys) and Lee Churchill (Bass).

The influences of this 5-piece are quite ranging, starting as a covers band from ashes of various local bands, but they’re pulling it together in a sound that’s been described as a collision between Bad Company and Foo Fighters. To my ear, very much between Thunder & King King; great dual guitars with room for sweeping keyboards.

Look out for their album, Before Dark Skies; bit of a treat…. (and there’s an EP out there too)
