Well another show was added at The Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley on 8/4, which I bought tix for a few months in advance, but sometimes the best laid plans don't quite work out. I did however make it to the show in Auburn last night and as always was NOT disappointed! Matt's long time keyboard/bass pedal player Johnny Henderson is on a paternity hiatus. He has an awesome bass player filling the void named Rodrigo Zambrano who Matt hooked up with in South Fla. where they both live these days. I would really like to see Rodrigo remain when Johnny is available again cuz nothing rounds out a great blues act like a B3. Matt told me he's touring more in the U.S. now that he's living here and booked by a co. in NYC. Catch him if you can, it just gets better!

Re: Matt Schofield

I have to second J Dawg about Matt....he is a monster on the guitar....you can hear many different influences in his music but he makes it all his own....great meeting J Dawg after the show....Matt has to be right up there in the top few guitar players in my opinion...he really puts on a show....

Re: Matt Schofield

Love this guy too, have all of his albums and would struggle to pick a favourite. You can tell his influences within the space of a solo, but it's identifiably Matt through and through. Obviously SRV and Collins inspired, but he has that Robben Ford style and tone thrown in too.

Amazing.

Re: Matt Schofield

This weekend we had the quite the pleasure of seeing Matt Schofield in a somewhat different setting. He is doing a small tour with Jay Stollman - vocalist, Scott Spacy - Bass (from Johnny Winter's band) and Tommy Nagy - Drums. In this configuration he is just a member of a band, and you can tell he is loving this little break from the pressures of solo touring. We spoke with him a bit after the show and just as Joe has mentioned how much he loves being part of RCFP and not having to be the front man and guy in charge, Matt too, shared the same remarks. There is no pressure and you can just have fun. And what fun it was to see this band. Jay Stollman has a great voice and it was a blast to hear Matt solo on everything from "A Change Is Gonna Come" to "Roll Over Beethoven" with a couple of his own songs sprinkled in as well as a few of Jay's. It shows his versatility which is a wonderful thing because as he was telling us people have definitely pigeonholed him and the labels he has been given for his style of playing are really quite unusual and quite incorrect and it has made it difficult for his career. Once people have labeled you it's hard to break free of that. There is a lot more to Matt than people realize and this little tour really gave us a nice glimpse of that.

Re: Matt Schofield

Saw Matt this week at the Hamilton, a gorgeous venue in DC. Love how at the start of the show they tell everyone they need to respect the artist and not talk during the performance. Wish more venues did this. Matt was double billed with Tommy Castro. Tommy said to Matt, I want to go first, there is no way I'm going to follow you, lol. Matt has a great band right now of young guys and they played a few older songs we hadn't heard in a few years. JDawg should be happy because he finally did "See Me Through". We hadn't seen him do that since 2013. Only 8 songs, because of the double bill, but some long ones in there with Matt doing those wonderful building solos like he does.

Re: Matt Schofield

Once again spectacular videos from Natasha and her 'sound man' (doesn't he have a cameo appearance in an Eric Steckel video?). The venue was so quiet I could hear him tuning his guitar with the feed to his amp off! Thank you sooooo much for these amazing shows. I would have no chance of ever seeing such incredible artists if it weren't for your work.

Have fun J Dawg....I'm going to catch him in Grass Valley....less traffic to fight for me....

Re: Matt Schofield

Jdawg & Pat6 - If you get chance to chat with Matt, post-gig; remind him he still has fans in the UK; especially at "The Cluny". Seems to have been a while since he dropped by....

Like Pat posted, I usually hang and chat with the Schofields and will remind him. Now that he's based in Florida he's gigging over here more these days.

Yep his Dad lives in or near Plymouth, not too far from Sutter Creek and works in one of the wineries in the area. At least that was his story a few years ago.
