Venues for a club show in the US (Page 1 of 2)

Shank Hall in Milwaukee, WI! It was before my time as a fan but I think some forum members used to go to those shows. I'm sure they'd love to have him back.

Belly Up at Solana Beach. Holds several hundred and Joe's played there many times. The last famous gig there was a secret one by the Rolling Stones for a private birthday party earlier this year. (now THERE is a cool surprise)

He and I talked about the Recher Theater but as you said it's not a music venue anymore that's why that one was dismissed. And Rams Head was discussed as well, but as you mentioned that's a seated venue. Really need a standing venue that could hold at least 300 people.

Higher Ground in Burlington, VT; Chan's Egg Rolls and Jazz in Woonsocket, RI; Sculler's in Cambridge, MA; Stone Church in NH, or maybe he can play after the NASCAR race in Loudon next year (plenty of room since no one goes to the races anymore).  Also the Wolf's Den at Mohegan Sun.

I like Rick's choice, The Belly Up in Solana Beach. Great club venue in an idyllic location. Saw Jackie Greene play there 10 years ago and Joe was on the schedule 2 weeks later, I circled his name on every calender I saw in the place. North San Diego County rocks!

I kind of came up with the 300-400 capacity thing because that's been close to the number for the 3 he's done so far. When talking with him it seemed like he preferred standing because that kind of show has more energy. That's why we kind of ruled out Rams Head and Iridium in NY.  Who knows how into it he really is, but it did seem when I asked him that he definitely had already been thinking about it, so I guess time will tell. Unless it's all just a pipe dream. I would think it would be cool if he could do one in at least 3 different areas of the country, East, Mid and West.

Sportsmens Tavern in Buffalo. Seems to be really liked by all the musicians that play there. Minimal numbers of tables but has an upstairs viewing area to go along with downstairs bar area. 300-400+ with a preponderance of standing

I think the criteria for a club show needs to be a room or venue that helped Joe get a foothold in a market like the Borderline in London. The big markets here are of course NYC, Chicago, Dallas, or LA. Joe knows those venues and who was responsible for taking a chance on him. I know the Granada in Dallas has that kind of history. One of the last shows the trio played before You and Me changed Joe’s direction. Joe had played a room in Deep Ellum, just a dive bar called Trees and the Granada Theater took a chance on him. Dallas has been a great market for Joe now he plays the Verizon which is 4,500 capacity. Of course Dallas was the site of Joefest which probably made the Granada show possible. Selling 600 plus tickets at the Majestic the year before so Dallas has my vote and it is a 3.5 hour drive.

I’m sure there are similar stories across the country that Joe could share. Although I thought of a few others of note. The Cellar in Struthers Ohio but it isn’t the same ownership or Pier’s which I think is closed like so many rooms that he played on the way up are no more. Zoo Bar in Nebraska is still around but Kansas City Grand Emporium is gone, and of course there is the Route 66 Road House ready to host his 40th. right here in OKC as well as the Will Rogers Theater scene of the Tuesday night sellout that the owner would love to re live along with 500 other Okies.
