***Belated Post Warning***
Sorry it’s taken me so long to report back here to the forum! In the spirit of “better late than never,” here is my $0.02 about the evening:
Such an amazing night!!! The music was incredible and the night felt very celebratory. A really special, intimate event honoring The King of the Blues!
Not only did I get Bonabaptized, but I also had the pleasure of meeting a bunch of forum members. So great to meet S & P from San Diego, Lindy Lu & Bob, Holdemxpert, and Natasha & Phil! (I don't know S&P's usernames & don't know how they feel about using their "real names" here, so I'm just going with initials.) (Sorry if I’m I'm leaving anyone out!)
It was a great tribute. In between short song sets, clips of B.B. King speaking & performing were played. They also showed folks like Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton & Bobby Bland talking about B.B., his music, & influence.
I have good things to say about all the performances & performers, but in the interests of space & time, I will keep it brief. Stand out performances & highlights:
The Basic Cable Band was on fire!!! What a tight group! Jimmy Vivino rocks & is one class act!! What a pro! Worm is a monster on drums & Mike Merritt is smokin’ on bass!!
Joe gave stellar performances of Boogie Woogie Woman & Hummingbird!! It took self-control to stay seated during Boogie Woogie Woman! I just wanted to jump up and dance, but I didn't want to block anyone's view, so I rocked out with tush in seat. Hummingbird was amazing!!! Also loved Joe’s solo & singing in The Thrill Is Gone. Dang, Joe B. can play & sing!!! This tantalizing sampler has got me so excited for experiencing the full Joe B. & band concert experience—can’t wait for December!!!
Agree with bluesguitarrockfan on How Blue Can You Get? Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks were incredible!!! Keb Mo, Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Noah Hunt were other standouts for me. What a night!!!
So much music, so little time!
