Why is it necessary to put music into boxes? Why do we need to compare one person with another? Perhaps what Dylan did by going electric was to take down the box of folk music? Plenty have followed in his style, - a name that you may not know so well over the other side of the pond is Mike Scott and his band The Waterboys. One of the best.

No one has mentioned so far in this thread (at least that I can find) that Dylan did this at the Newport FOLK Festival.  Article here about the guitars return to that fest fifty years later.
