Re: Lineup Changes

As Joe himself wrote in Different Shades of Blue... "All good things finally come to an end!"

Joe doesn't do anything half assed.
Music = constant change.
Joe keeps things fresh and new.

I will also miss the ever Classy Carmine and Charming Tal who I dubbed the Blues Beast!
But look how many great years of music we all have enjoyed with all of them!
And so many pictures from all over the world and {{{hugs}}} galore!

If this is a permanent change, then we will celebrate our friends Carmine Rojas and Tal Bergman and wish them the very best!

Cheers Gentlemen!!

Re: Lineup Changes

It's very sad to see Tal and Carmine go! Tal was probably the nicest musician I've ever met, and his playing will be missed. If Joe decides to come to South America again (last time was 2013) it will be great to see the new line up, though, I'm happy for them!

I'm broke, motherf**ker!

Re: Lineup Changes

I pretty much agree with everyone on this. I personally don't mind the shake up. Love the guys leaving and like what's coming in!!  Now if Joe could just get Arlen back on keys...

Re: Lineup Changes

I saw Anton's  post on Twitter and just hated it.  I know that Tal and Joe will still share Rock Candy  but not sure about Carmine.  Hoping it is not related to his eye problems.

I love Anton and feel he is just a class act.  Not too sure about Michael. While he can play I find his style a bit odd.  Just me and don't  shoot me just saying how I feel.

I love Joe in all his  bands and I am sure this one will be great. Just going to miss the positive vibe Tal and Carmine added

Re: Lineup Changes

my take; things change, - and we can only guess at reasons, - could well be that Carmine needs a break or perhaps wants to try something new and we have to respect that if it is the case. - And when we buy the tickets, it does say (only) Joe Bonamassa on it. I have been lucky enough to see Anton and Micheal before (Albert Hall and Anton with Beth), and can say that both are superb at what they do.... Personal preference would be for Arlen to be back in the lineup as well and perhaps Bogie on a second kit but who am I to suggest anything? smile

Re: Lineup Changes

Best wishes to Carmine and Tal. Personally, Carmine is the biggest loss. I shall miss his groovy self the most. While Tal brings his sparkling and fun personality with him on stage, I am looking forward to seeing Anton. I hope to never have to witness Arlan again (sorry) and my wish is that when Reese moves on, he is replaced with Kevin McKendree. He filled in when Reese was getting inducted into the Rock Hall and he was awesome!

Re: Lineup Changes

When I posted the topic, I wasn't really sure that it was "news" to folks here in Bonamassaville, but it appears that it was. Makes me nostalgic for my days in journalism...  wink

I'm a relative late-comer to the party, not having encountered Joe's music until 2010, and having only seen him live six times since then. For what it's worth, I am hopeful that these changes will help keep Joe energized as he pursues that "always on the road" lifestyle to which we've all grown accustomed. I don't know if I'll have a chance to see the newly-announced lineup, but I hope I do...

In the meantime, I certainly second all the praise for Tal and Carmine (the only Joe rhythm section I've ever seen live), and I wish them nothing but success and happiness in whatever comes next. I will treasure my memories of watching you guys play together; the sheer joy you always seemed to be feeling was palpable to me, and made those nights something quite special...

Re: Lineup Changes

As long as we are breaking out our wish lists, here is my line up.  Joe, Michael and Anton.  That's it.  A power trio, like at The Borderline, in Tour de Force, with more of a rock edge to it.  Supporting Joe's album that has more of a rock edge to it.  I'm sure I will love what  ever Joe does, I always do, but, that's my wish list.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Wow, I stay off the boards for a few days and look what happens...I'm not sure of exactly what transpired but I do hate to see Carmine and Tal depart the band, I've never seen Joe live without those two. I can only speculate but I will miss Joe and Carmine ' s interactions on Young Man Blues and Tal ' s power .
I do suspect it has something to do with Joe's new direction regarding the horn section, something I dig but only occasionally. Anton is a more precise drummer and Michael Rhodes can do double duty on harmonica and is a more "blues" oriented bassist and it just fits considering the Three Kings Tour. Sorry but If your looking for a more rock edge then this isn't it I'm afraid,  what this does is open up the Muddy Waters sound complete with horns, harmonica, and keyboards, a good sound to be sure but signals an end to the "rock" show I am personally fond of. I'm a fan of Different Shades Of Blue, horn section and all, but this marks a departure and one I'm not sure I agree with. I may feel differently tomorrow but this is where I stand right now.......

Interesting prediction on the next "phase" of Joes sound
seems to me with all the changes in keyboard players and drummers Joe hasn't changed the blues rock thing.I would say, without any data, that a lot fans here prefer Joe to rock out the blues.I really don't think Anton and Michael will change that.Perhaps the key to the thing is what the new album is going to sound like.So as always we have to wait to find out what turn Joe has taken!

Re: Lineup Changes

Does anyone have a listing of the full band lineup?  I understand they are going out with the biggest band ever including backup singers.  This will be my first time seeing JOE live, but if I had to guess, they'll have Anton and Michael for definately all dates in August for the 3 kings and then maybe scale down the band and change up the set list with heavier tunes.  Like I said, I haven't seen him live before, my experience has been all bluray performances.  Anton I'd a tremendous drummer, but it seems like they are more suited with Tal for the heavier stuff and Michael Rhodes playing the more faithful covers, while Carmine seems to keep the band grounded with his smooth solid playing. Any thoughts?

I like the sound of that, never got to see Joe without the keyboards.
Maybe one day?
