Topic: Lineup Changes

According to Anton Fig's new website (http://www.antonfig.com/gigs/), Joe's band for the next few tours will be Anton on drums, Michael Rhodes on bass, and Reese Wynans on keys. Sorry if all that has been announced/discussed here before, but it was news to me...

Re: Lineup Changes

News that has tugged at my heart strings :fp  ...lots of love and affection for Carmine & Tal, the two most huggable and all around sweet guys, will miss them immensely.  Life is always full of changes that add variety....I have seen Joe with Anton & Michael in London and at Red Rocks and they are great, but this old heart mine will be missing the on & offstage smiles & hugs of Carmine & Tal, heck, I still miss Bogie, Mark, Rick, Arlan and Derek......
                  Feeling quite sentimental....

Re: Lineup Changes

I understand Joe likes change and I know how happy he was playing with Anton and Michael for the Muddy Wolf shows, but have to say I am having a hard time knowing that we won't be seeing Tal and Carmine again with Joe. Love these guys and they have been so sweet and wonderful to us and brought such a wonderful happy vibe to the whole show. Feeling pretty emotional about it all. It'll take time for me to adjust. Just so thankful we were able to spend time with them and their loved ones this past year. They feel like family and I will miss them terribly sad I guess in the future I shouldn't get so attached since one thing is for certain, change will happen.

Re: Lineup Changes

WOW  sad   I have had the flu for a couple days but this just gave me the sh*t's again.Sorry to see Tal and Carmine go bye bye . Maybe they can hook up with a piano player from the land down under:) and give E S  a call.

Re: Lineup Changes

It is of course very sad because they are cool chaps. Tal and Carmine.
Always having a lot of smiles on stage.
Tal will be with Joe at RCFP shows and records. Luckily.

But musically Anton and Michael are one step ahead I think. Love their playing very much.
Let's wait for the tours...
Hoping for Europe. Have to buy additional tix now

Re: Lineup Changes

Joe has changed his line-up in the past but by the sounds of this discussion this is permanent...for now?

I have wanted to see both Anton and Michael, looks like I will get my wish.  But not at the expense of losing Tal and Carmine.

Things always change. It keeps it fresh and is good for all.
Carmine, Tai you guys are AAA talent and such an inspiration. You both will be missed. I am sure we will see you again because yes things change. I thought something like this would happen after seeing the show at Red Rocks.
Good luck to you both
cheers Ron

Re: Lineup Changes

Although I'll miss seeing Tal and Carmine, Anton & Michael were absolutely stellar on the Tour de Force shows. Tal and Carmine seem like great guys, so it's tough to see them depart.
That said, changes happen for lots of reasons...the touring can eventually wear on you. Some musicians can only do it for so long and then need a change.
On a side note, I started following Joe in 2004 and witnessed the exodus of Eric and Kenny, the addition of Bogie (5 years with Joe?) and Mark (1 year with Joe?), Carmine, then Rick (gasp! Joe was no longer a power trio!).
I believe Carmine has had the longest tenure of Joe's band mates since I've been watching. Roughly 9 years by my count. If this is a permanent change, I'll really miss him. He always seems to have so much fun when he's playing.

Re: Lineup Changes

I have only ever seen Carmine on bass, if he is ' retiring ' then he will be missed but keeping up with Joe's touring schedule must be quite demanding and Carmine also works on Joe's albums when other band members get a bit of down time. Hopefully he may still appear on the studio albums.

Re: Lineup Changes

Anton does say for the next few tours with dates just through the end of this year so I'm not sure it's a longer term deal than that. Perhaps a real push for Joe in promoting the upcoming album since that was the band in the studio recording it? That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if we don't see Carmine and Tal with Joe again. If that's the case I'll certainly miss them.

+1.  Now, if you really want to stir the pot...something I have wondered for a few years now is, when will Kevin be replaced.  Not that Kevin has not done a spectacular job with Joe, but at sometime don't you want to experiment with a different direction.
Thank you Carmine, and Tal.  We have seen you 6 times with Joe and you were spectacular.
Welcome Anton and Michael.  I have to admit, I am a huge Anton fan and am very excited.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Lineup Changes

I believe this has been in the works for a while. Kevin Shirley has always preferred Anton over Tal and once David Letterman's show had ended, and therefore Anton's full time job, I figured this would happen. Joe got a taste of Michael Rhodes' abilities with the Tour De Force and Muddy Wolf and he's been on quite a few of the studio albums. Figured Tal's and Carmine's days were numbered. Very thankful we'll be seeing Tal next week at the RCFP shows. Would have been so upset to not be able to personally thank him and say goodbye. Really hope Carmine stops by there as well. It's the idea of not being able to say goodbye that's one of the hardest with all this.

Re: Lineup Changes

Mixed emotions. Love the old lineup and the new as well.
Vaya con Dios to Tal and Carmine, I know their music will endure.
I look forward to Joe's new direction with the big bands and his continuing progress on his big adventure.
Exciting times! I'm ready to have my socks knocked off again and the Three Kings tour is sure to do that.
Happy to have the chance to see Tal again next week at the spud and give him a big hug.

Re: Lineup Changes

For all those lucky who attend RCFP next week ; maybe you can ask Tal about that.
Never say never. But I like to see Anton and Michael.
But as Michael is a very busy Nashville session Bassist it is difficult to nail him into long tours.
Let's see

Re: Lineup Changes

In all these last years Joe had been surrounded by first class musicians, each one one of a kind and underlining Joe's music.
In all my 10 Joe evenings (since 2009) Carmine was playing bass, thanks for his great performance. From the DVD Rockpalast I really loved this cool cat Eric Csar playing that instrument. I am excited hearing Michael Rhodes playing live...
I am already missing Tal's temperamental drumming right now. Thanks, Tal! Above all regretting never having caught one of your legendary drumsticks...
But remembering RAH I drumming and Tour De Force at the Borderline Anton Fig conjures a bright smile on my face. Great expectations ...
I think all those persons never quite vanish out of Joe's reach maybe on tour or in the studio recordings.
Hoping for a come back in the future and not saying good bye forever!
