Sibelius Concerto For Violin in D-Minor
Till Bennewitz - Meeting In The Night (pre-Release)
Been anticipating this release since the news that not only had Aynsley & Steph signed this young singer/songwriter to their Straight Talking Records but that Aynsley Lister was going to take on the producer’s chair as well as session the guitar work.
So, let’s get a couple of things out the way - this is Till’s album so don’t be expecting the usual fretboard fireworks, Aynsley is very much the “journeyman” here, though the quality is there; the only track you here the Lister fingers is some underplayed slide fills on Drive-in Queen. Wayne Proctor, free from his usual producer’s duties (2 albums already this year) is clearly enjoying himself behind the kit, but Bob Fridzema’s keyboards really lift this onto another level. This quality of a band really does pull the best out of Till Bennewitz and his songs.
Till is very much the singer/songwriter and possesses a very Springsteen-esque voice and on first play, the album has a “E.Street” sound to it, not least on tracks like Being A Man, Old Tattoos and Downtown Train, but don’t let that mislead you, listen again and the horn section used on Downtown Train gives more of a soul vibe than the Springsteen exuberance. The sound, the feel is very much more an homage than straight take-off; Henry Boy and Rebel In Town make solid, double-volley openers, in this style, then along come Meeting In the Dark, Midnight Promenade and Lonely Boy which veer more into the rich story-telling more expected of Dire Straits numbers like Tunnel of Love, yet it manages to sounds contemporary.
In short, a really good album from an upcoming young talent and, Aynsley connection aside, a recommended purchase.

Xland, spectacular song!
Willie the Pimp - Frank Zappa
thanks, I needed that. I still marvel at how Angus can keep that up for an entire show, it was pretty much the same when I saw them on the Stiff Upper Lip tour.

The Storm just finished up, now listening to Calling Out to You - Tedeschi Trucks Band. The TTB has now surpassed everyone as my favorite band. They put out nothing but great music.
Darren Hodge - The Road to Nashville
One of my “Guitar Star” tips that made it to the2nd round…. This is a solo, acoustic, instrumental album from the young West-Country picker, and a very impressive debut outing. The lad can “rag” and he can “shuffle” like the best of ‘em. Looks like he’s influenced by the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, but I’m hearing touches of Steve Howe (away from YES) in there too.
Surprised to see Superstition in among the covers, but Darren pulls it off in fine style. Quite a proportion of self-penned numbers, showing maturity for a 19y old. Well worth a listen.
Time to Focus - The Mentulls + Aynsley Lister from Reflections CD....
One of the best twin guitar pieces I've heard in a long, long time.
Blackout ...The Scorpions (what a great concert back in the 80's )
