Topic: the 'other' London (Ontario Canada) Apr11-2014

So I'm not sure if I can make it to the  'other' London show ..(Ontario Canada) Apr11-2014

I had my best tech quit and I only have myself and a complete newbie in training to cover 24/7... so I'm a bit stretched and to travel 2hrs out the city for the show.

but in any event It'll be either myself and my sister going or I'll have to send the wife in my place.
we'll probably eat at Fitzray's across the street from the Bud Centre before the show.

anyone else planning on attending the London Ontario Canada show?

if there was ever a guest that I'd want to see at this show it'd be Randy Bachman like he just had in the 'real' London show

---------------

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Re: the 'other' London (Ontario Canada) Apr11-2014

Hope things work out so you can go.

I'm very much with you on wanting to see Randy Bachman guest with Joe.

I'm still not 100% that I'm making the London ON show.. getting close show day though.

but if I can go, I'm thinking of having dinner at Fitzray's across the street at around 5:30pm since they have a good steak deal on Saturday's.

Re: the 'other' London (Ontario Canada) Apr11-2014

If you read the April 9,2015 Montreal Show by mikimikiveliki in the Montreal thread; the London ON April 11 show is pretty much identical (since Joe and the crew would have to strike the set at 1am Saturday April11, then drive 8hrs straight to London and began setting up again immediately to be ready for the Sat night show)
Joe and the boys would have had to sleep on the bus.. I can't imagine that many people in just 2 buses,, he has to have more buses.

started with New-Rise/Oh Beautiful .
"only" 6 guitars I counted..
[EDIT]
I edited out my guess' the guitar lists in favor of Joe's 100% accurate guitar list below

Spot got the most work out of the night..
must be the new fret job Joe just had done on it.

Just a few 'old favorites' were added to form the current list, Sloe Gin, John Henry, etc.. Most was from the Shades of Blue big_smile and a couple from the Muddy Wolf

I was in Row 7 floor2, but I must have had the 4 biggest guys in all of London in front of me in row 6.. my nose was equal to the their shoulders, which made it hard to see.
also I was thinking that that Bonamassa mic stand was cool, till I realized that when Joe is singing at it, you can't see his guitar work behind it (and it blocked my view of Tal, couldn't see him at all)

At times he did more singing than playing (while semi-hugging his guitar) this show cased his singing ability while the Key's and Horn's did his fill in.

Sound quality was good, each member of the band was well defined and clear, once or twice Joe fell back a little in the mix with vocals vs music but was still clear to hear the lyrics he was singing.

in 2013 here in London there was about 3 loud guys yelling Jooooooeee,, or Bonamaaaasssaaa,, last night,, I think it increased to about 30 guys.
esp in Joe's quite spots.

Speaking of quite times.
Joe really showed the dynamics with the guitar from quiet to loud, many times, not just a couple of times like he would do in the past, he was really showing how 'tactile' the guitar could be with 4 almost-cranked 1950's Fender's in the back line

as always, you can bet the time on your Rolex, Joe started right at 8pm, ran right to 10pm on the dot.
after about 2min of cheering, the boys  came back out and ran to 10:15pm.
down a bit from last May2014 when I saw him in Toronto where he ran straight to 10:45..
but Hey.. I could continue hearing him play long into the night/morning.. but I'll take 2hrs 15 min over 0hrs.

I only recorded Sloe Gin..

Didn't get much video done.. but here is London ON version of Sloe Gin

I've been concerned about that mic stand. Bummer.

Thanks for the review!

LIVE MUSIC IS BEST

Re: the 'other' London (Ontario Canada) Apr11-2014

Thanks Mini..
there was 'scare' of a service call for work about 1.5hrs before the show.. but I won't bore you with the details of work.

Now just need to find out when he's coming back to Toronto in the fall (and I should have someone trained to cover me by then..  I hope)

"only" 6 guitars I counted.. Bonabird, then Spot, then a blue strat not sure the year, I think it was a Skinner 'clone', he used a well used Sunburst Strat (that a '58??, not sure the year),, he was really percussive on it,, was cool hearing him 'spank' the strat that hard.
he used a signature ES335 as well. ( I need more guitars and more time to play them LoL)

I forgot the Firebird. And yes, there was one sunburst and one blue Strat.

I know the feeling. I am not a dwarf, but sometimes there are guys in front of me who look look like basketball players LOL
The advantage of the Place-des-Arts venue in Montreal is that every other row has odd and every other even seat numbers. So, wherever you sit, there is nobody directly in front of you. Unless Zdeno Chara is sitting two rows ahead, but I don't think he feels for the blues. wink

1965 Lake Placid Blue Fender Stratocaster
1955 Fender Stratocaster sunburst

Re: the 'other' London (Ontario Canada) Apr11-2014

Traveled down the highway from Burlington to London for this one...just like last time he was at the gardens.  I must admit, as much as I have enjoyed his last four or five in Ontario, this one seemed to have a different dynamic to it.  Each JB show I've seen has been great and his playing is beyond reproach but this show demonstrated a different side of his playing for me - perhaps the material change or the addition of horns, etc.  Well worth the drive and the price of a floor seat IMO.

My only complaint was the actual seating (not the seat location) which was less than spectacular...folding chairs right next to one another aren't great especially.  I'm average sized but all around me found it a really tight squeeze...other than that fantastic show...can't wait for the next one!

Re: the 'other' London (Ontario Canada) Apr11-2014

Saw this amazing show from the balcony - Great view of the stage but a bit far away, the acoustics were great. Only question - I saw the four fender amps, but I could not tell what model they were. One good thing - my wife that is not in the least into guitars - well my playing anyway - was absolutely blown away with Joe and his virtuosity, and actually watched a youtube of one of his concerts today - Seems like another new fan.

Hey u .. Nutty Squirrel smile

Thanks for the review, pics and video .. sounds like an awesome show

While looking up from the floor, it would certainly appear the mic stand would block stage views

Biggest guys in all of London eh? ..

Been to a few concerts with that seating set up. Not too comfy at all. I prefer just a lil elbow room.

Thanks again!
