Topic: One of my all time favorite Joe subjects! Rockpalast.
So Joe is playing Radio City Music Hall and we are all excited, even those of us that are not able to make the trip. I cannot wait to see the DVD/Blue Ray and hear the reviews. We know from experience that no matter how high our expectations are Joe just blows them away. (Sorry about the pressure Joe, but it's your fault and we love you for it.) It all started again for me when someone posted the Pain and Sorrow thread a couple weeks ago. Of course I had to go back and revisit that cut, that led me back to "ROCKPALAST". I pulled out the DVD and watched it again last night for the umpteenth time. My God, it is spectacular. From the candles (is there any fire marshal in the U.S. that would allow that ), to the leather shoe lace Joe has tied around his neck. I owned a night club in the '70's across from Michigan State University, we had talent such as Charlie Musselwhite, Luther Allison, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Aerosmith, Joe Walsh (the local fire marshal tried to shut us down for over crowding and Joe W. would not stop. My partner jumped on stage and tried to wrestle the guitar away from Joe, but that is a story for another time), Frampton's Camel, KISS, BTO, REO and on and on. I also owned a club in Florida and had many groups, but the pride of my career was SRV. It was so exciting to watch these groups, living on next to nothing playing clubs, giving everything they had, believing in their music. That is where I see Joe in Rockpalast. Playing as he said, "louder and faster than anyone else". It is raw, it is electric, it is emotional. I have absolutely no complaints about what Joe is doing now. In fact, it is the best I have ever seen. But, I would love to see Joe, at some point in his career, go back to the "power trio". To me, there is nothing better.
